Chapter 8 - A Little Mischief 2

"Then why didn't you come?" asked my mother, obviously looking at me.

"I just had a pressing need," I murmured, twisting my fingers in my pocket.

Silence

– Can I go?

"You're in a hurry," she whispered, a hint of sarcasm in her voice.

Silence

I stared for a long time at the corner of the room

– No, just tired

– So you've already started classes, which is why you're so tired, always sarcastic

She tapped the wood of her desk with the tip of her pen, making the same ticking sound as the clock hanging on the wall.

It's frustrating.

"We didn't do anything on the second day back at school," I muttered sarcastically, shrugging my shoulders.

– you can go

I turn around quickly, ready to flee this stressful atmosphere.

Then

"Your math teacher will be here tomorrow to start the program," my mother announced.

I froze, my hand tightening on the door handle

"I can study alone," I murmured harshly.

– I don't think I asked for your opinion. You'll be home early tomorrow if you don't have anything educational to do.

A burning sensation rose in my ears, my eyes blazed with anger. I gritted my teeth and flung the door open, but unintentionally I slammed it shut with too much force, nearly shattering the glass.

BAM!

"Come back here," my mother ordered in a very calm voice.

I was already trembling without even having seen him

- I'm coming….

- NOW

I startled

- Yes

I turned around with a swift movement and stopped in the doorway, my gaze lowered, far away from her, watching her every move

"Can you explain?" she asked.

– my hand slid

- slide?

I heard his chair being rolled, and I immediately moved three paces away from the opening.

– Don't leave your room until you've finished your two history chapters and all the math exercises I gave you.

- But-

– you have something to say

– no

I turned around, restraining myself from making another scene, clenched my fists in my pockets, and disappeared down the corridor, heading headlong towards the last room at the end.

CLAKKK!!!

I slam my door and slide down the wall

I hate school, I hate classes, I hate you, I hate Mom, and I hate this shitty life.

– Shut your mouth, shut up, shut up, 2 chapters and 15 exercises, you're not the one who's going to have to do them, not because of you, thank you

You're welcome, she annoyed me, that shitty teacher, why don't you tell her

– Get out of here, I hope you can take my place tomorrow and sort out the mess you've made yourself.

I pull my chair forcefully, knocking it over onto the floor.

- Shit

TOC ! TOC! TOC! TOC ! TOC! TOC!

he was banging on my door as if he wanted to break it down

- WHAT!

"WHAT?", you little bastard, shouted Goodwell

BAM!

He kicked down my door.

– who allowed you to open my door

"Your father, I warned you, I told you very clearly to stay in your corner," he shouted, moving closer to me with a finger pointed in my direction.

"Why did she bring you back with her?" he continued.

With his finger almost in my eye

– if you finish yelling you can leave and close the door behind you.

"Hey!" he froze in mid-crisis.

– "Hey," what? Get out and close this fucking door!

He moved even closer and pushed me away with the back of his hand, slamming me against the chair on the floor.

"Since when do you talk to me like that?" Godwell sighed.

– since now, the literary,

I'm pushing him away too.

– I need peace and quiet to work on serious things, the literary side of things

He grabbed me by the collar

"You're playing with fire," he murmured icyly.

I grabbed his arm and ripped away his grip

I ran a hand over my neck, out of breath.

– This is your first and last chance; the next one will end in the hospital…

– get out

He gives me one last dark look and turns away, but

BAM!

He kicked my door again and stormed out, almost knocking François over.

Genial

– (close it)

Silence

I glanced back and forth between my chair and François, who was staring at me from the doorway of my room.

– is this-

– everything's fine, everything's fine

I cut him off before he even starts

I run a hand over my face and continue down to my hair and wipe away the sweat that had beaded on my forehead.

I approached my door, lightly kissed, I closed my door on François who looked neutral, as always, nobody has any emotion in this house.

I turn around and look at the state of my room; the adrenaline has worn off now. I have to work. I pull the chair back up, and it falls back down.

I'm putting it back together

She falls

I put it back up one last time

Silence

I give him a kick that knocks him down for good, and I go throw myself on my bed, I spread out with my arms wide open and count the number of dots on the ceiling…

Silence

My eyes had just opened before I realized I'd fallen asleep; I jolted out of bed.

– Damn, I haven't done my homework

I walked a short distance towards my desk before staring at the window

– It's daytime!

My eyes dilated

– I'm late, I haven't done anything, haa, when did I sleep?

I rush to my door and hurry out to the toilet

"Hérèse ?" a voice calls out to me.

"François," I murmured, a cold sweat running down my back, "why didn't you wake me up?"

– hérèse -

– I didn't do anything

– hérèse

I'm late, very late.

– hérèse

– whatttt what what

By shaking my hand

"It's 4 a.m.," François sighed, patting me on the shoulder.

– calm down

– 4 a.m.? 4 a.m.? And it's daylight….

What exactly am I doing?

I made the trip for nothing.
