Ellie's POV
"Hi! My name is Ellie and I am 10 years old. My parents are the owners of Pack Life Sanctuary and Education Facility. My mom says she and my dad were given the land from my great great great grandfather on my moms side of the family. She said that 100s of years ago her family use to live there but it was more like camping everyday back then. Now no one camps on the land anymore so my parents decided to change it so they can rescue animals. One of the main animals that they rescue are wolf dogs. Just like the name says they are both a wolf and a dog, some people think it's cool to make a wolf and a dog have babies together but they don't realize that these types of dogs are not like regular pets and need a lot of land to run and hunt in because they are more like the wolf side. Once people realize they don't make good house pets they abandon them and that's where my parents come in. They rescue these wolf dogs and let them live on their land. My parents have made it their life's mission to make sure that wolf dogs and other animals have the best possible life and I hope to follow in their footsteps and do the same when I grow up." I finish up my presentation on my parents career and what I want to do when I grow up based on their influence then go sit down at my desk. Then Ms. K stands up.
"Wonderful job, Ellie." Ms. K turns to the rest of class, "Ellie was our last presentation for today, we will now move onto math, please take out your workbooks and turn to page 34."
The rest of the school day goes by so slowly and I can't wait to get home. It's Friday and Mom said that we could go camping up in the north mountains this weekend. It's one of my favorite places to go camping. There's a waterfall that flows into a beautiful pool beneath. Mom says one day when I am old enough we will hike down to the pool and see the waterfall from below instead of at the top and I can't wait for that day. School ends and Dad picks me up. He tells me Mom is packing for me so all I have to do is put my school stuff away and help load the car then we will set out.
A few hours later
We've set up camp and now are making our dinner over the campfire. Dad said tomorrow we will go hiking but hasn't told me where to, I am hoping it will be to the waterfall, even if we don't hike down to the pool yet.
Alex's POV
We have been camped under the waterfall for a couple days now. Mother joined us hours after the attacks started. She was badly injured but being a Luna she was healing fairly quickly. Unfortunately Father died in battle and we all felt the snap of our family bond, Mother is taking it the hardest but she is trying to stay strong especially for us pups.
Ash and I have been going out hunting for food as much as we can. When the rogues attacked us we both shifted into our wolves. It's early even for Alpha heirs but with what was happening we aren't surprised. We killed all those filthy rogues without much struggle. They clearly underestimated us.
When we got to the cave behind the waterfall Ari's wolf was standing over all the pups snarling until we shifted back and she realized it was us. I think she didn't register our Alpha auras because we shifted for the first time but also because she was more concerned about keeping the younger pups safe. We will always be grateful that she was willing to stand up for them even though she's an omega and might not survive a fight.
She's also been extremely helpful with mother. Taking care of the pups when mother is too distraught thinking of the loss of her mate or even just comferting her. With how great she is I wouldn't be surprised if she is destined to be a Luna in a few years. I know I am only 12 but I can recognize those things, some say I am smarter than average and I just think the Moon Goddess knew Ash and I would have to grow up quickly so she made sure we had the skills to do so.
"Momma, Alex and I are going to go hunt for food, we will bee back soon." Ash informs our Mother as we are preparing to leave.
"Be careful my loves and mind link me if there's any trouble." She replies. Today is a better day for her. We both nod, take the clothes we have off and shift to go hunt. Ari comes with us telling us she wants to gather some herbs for our mother's remaining wounds and to see if there's any fruit or vegetables she can find to balance out our meal. We nod in acknowledgment and when we get far enough away from the water we split up to cover more ground.
As I am hunting I smell fire nearby and go to check it out. Apparently a family of humans is camping nearby so I link the others to let them know to be careful, not to shift back until they are in the cave and to stay at the lower part of the mountain by the waterfall so we can easily hide in the cave if needed. The last thing we need is to be discovered by humans. Not many humans do deep wood camping so we didn't expect anyone close by but now that we know they are here we will have to take extra precautions.
Ellie's POV
The next morning I get up ready for the day. I'm so excited to see where we will go hiking today. Mom is already making a light but filling breakfast so I know it might be a slightly challenging hike. As we are eating I can't help but bounce up and down in anticipation. Hiking is honestly one of my favorites along with being outdoors camping. Mom always jokes that I am a wild animal at heart. Dad always calls me his little wolf since I grew up playing with the wolf dogs. They both know they truly are my favorite animals of all time. Sometimes I dream of being a wolf princess, ruling over all the wolves and getting all the love and cuddles from them as much as possible.
"Little Wolf, you ready to go hiking?" Dad calls me from my thoughts.
"Absolutely!" I call back.
"Perfect, it's time to go." Mom says.
We gather our hiking gear and head towards the river which makes me so excited. It means we are head towards the falls! My parents laugh at my giddiness and we continue on our way. It takes about 45 minutes to get to the river and mom asks if I am tired and want to rest. I tell her no that I can still keep going and she looks over to dad who nods.
"Okay sweetie, if you're sure, how about we finally do the trek down to the pool, we can then rest and eat lunch watch the waterfall from there and then head back. What do you say?"
I squeal, and excitedly hug both my parents. "Yes!!! Are you serious!? It's finally time!? I've been waiting for this day for forever!"
Both my parents chuckle, and Dad responds, "Yes we are sure! It's still too cold to go swimming in the pool but we can always come back when it's warmer."
I jump for joy and hug my parents again. Then we start following the river the rest of the way to the waterfall. Dad finds the path first and starts heading down. Mom encourages me to follow and she trails behind. Once we get safely down mom pulls out a blanket sets it by the bank of the pool and starts pulling out the lunch she brought. It probably took another hour and a half to get down here so I am starving and greedily eat my lunch. My dad chuckles and mom tells me to slow down otherwise I will get a tummy ache. After a while we sit watching the falls. Mom and dad cuddle next to one another and lie down while I scoot closer to the pool. I touch the water and know my dad is right, its way to cold to go swimming. As I gaze up to the fall, I swear I see something behind it. I get up to start walking closer until dad's voice stops me.
"Little Wolf, what are you doing?" He asks.
"I think I see something behind the waterfall, I just wanted a closer look."
