I'm preparing food for Ari and the pups when my twins link me.
'Mother, we have a problem.'
'Momma, we have a problem.'
They both say in unison. They talk in unison a lot and I don't know if I will ever get use to it.
My heart rate spikes, I have lost so much already, as a Luna and a wife. I can't imagine any more heartbreak. I hope whatever the twins are about to tell me isn't too dangerous and something I can help them solve quickly.
'What is it?'
'Momma, our wolves were playing when we came across a human family. I uh, I got close to the daughter, let her pet me.' Asher starts.
'WHAT!' I link incredulously, 'Why would you do that?'
'Our wolves were drawn to her Mother, I let her pet me too, my wolf also licked her. We both did.' Alexander says.
I rub a hand down my face, there must be something about this girl for my two boys to do something so reckless, especially Alexander, he's the more sensible one, the one less likely to take risks. I take a deep breath then ask 'Okay so what is the problem?'
'Well, her parents saw, they own a wolf dog sanctuary and because we are too friendly to be wild wolves they believe we are abandoned wolf dog pups, they want to bring us to the sanctuary. They are afraid we won't survive in the wild.' Alexander answers.
Great, I think to myself.
'Can't you just run?' I ask trying to think of what else they could do.
'We could Momma, but because of their line of work they might come after us.'
'Yeah, I think the father especially would follow us, which means we couldn't return to the waterfall, we can't risk you guys being found, the younger pups can't shift, it would look strange to the humans to find five human kids with two grown wolves and two pups, so we would have to find somewhere else to go and that could most likely put us in more danger. There's also the possibility that they could try to trap us to make sure we are safely brought to the sanctuary.'
Shoot, they both have a point. 'What makes you think they won't put you in a trap now?'
'The dad said he thinks they can get their daughter to gain our trust to follow her to their car. They said the sanctuary isn't far.'
'Okay my dear pups, follow the girl, go to the sanctuary, find out what you can about it and let me know. If it's not far maybe you can sneak off and return back here. If not we will figure something out. I love you my dear pups, be safe.'
'Love you Mother'
'Love you Momma'
Both my pups say at the same time then cut the link. I slump down and start to cry. I can't lose my pups too, its all too much.
Asher's POV
I know Momma is scared and upset but I am kinda excited to go with the family. I'm worried about my family, what's left of our pack, of course, but I want to get to know the girl more. We will let Momma know what we find out about the sanctuary and go from there.
As we end the mindlink the girl turns to her parents with a questioning look on her face.
"Mom, Dad are we really going to bring them to the sanctuary? Are we sure it's the right thing? What if we are wrong and they are wolves and not wolf dogs and they have a pack here?"
"Oh honey, we understand your concern, believe us we wouldn't risk it if we didn't think it was the right thing. They are way too friendly and comfortable with you to be wild. It seems as though they spent their earlier years with people but were recently abandoned."
"Yes little wolf, when you have been doing this rescue thing as long as we have, you recognize the signs and behaviors between wolf dogs and wild wolves." Her dad reassured her. I like that he calls her little wolf, it's like she's apart of our culture already without even knowing about it. It also makes sense now that I know they run a wolf dog sanctuary, and her favorite animals are wolves, I would probably give her the same nickname if I was him.
'So we really doing this?' I ask Alex.
'Looks like it's the only way. We have to keep everyone safe.' He says back.
Just before I go to answer back, Ellie, my beautiful angel turns to us and scratches behind my ears.
"Okay, Sam, you ready to go to your new home?" I cock my head to the side, questioning why she just called me Sam. She giggles. "That's what I'm gonna call you, you are my Sammie and you," she turns to Alex scratches under his chin, you are my Dean. Since it seems like you two are brothers and you are coming home with us, I am naming you after my two favorite brothers."
'Two favorite brothers' Alex growls threw the mindlink, 'I don't like that she has two favorite brothers that aren't us.'
Ellie must have heard Alex's wolf growl out loud a little because she chuckles. "Awe, Dean are you the jealous type, do you understand what 'favorite bothers' means? Well, don't worry, Sam and Dean are fictional brothers, they are characters in my favorite show 'Supernatural' I doubt you understand what that means but you two are now my very real Sam and Dean so you will take priority in my affections over two very hot actors that play brothers on t.v., it's not like I will ever meet the characters in real life and though I would love to go to a convention to meet the actors in person that probably won't happen plus they would only ever see me as a fan and they are way too old for any type of romantic relationship plus Dad says I can't date until I'm 30 anyways, though between you and me, I think all Dad's say that because they don't want to be replaced in their little girl's life. Sorry I am rambling and you probably have no idea what I am talking about." She shakes her head and we hear her parents chuckling behind her.
'She's so cute. I can't wait to learn more about her other interests.' I link to my brother.
'I think so too. I also want to know why we are so drawn to her. Other than family I have never cared about getting to know about someone.' He links back.
It is interesting to feel this way. Even if we do manage to find a way back to our family I think my wolf and I would have to come back just to see her and get to know her.
Ellie's POV
I'm so excited that my parents believe Sam and Dean are wolf dogs and not just wolves, it means we get to bring them home and I will get to play with them. Don't get me wrong I help with the other wolf dogs and love on them if they allow me to but there's something different about Sam and Dean. Maybe it's because they are younger than the other wolf dogs my parents have. Most of them were already adults by the time I was old enough to help out so having puppies to help is exciting. I don't know how old they are but Mom said they will have their vet look at them when we get back so we should find out soon.
I get Sam and Dean to follow me to my parents car and after everything is loaded up we take off. My parents wanted to put them in the kennels they always keep in the back but the wolf dogs were not having that. Now Sam is on one side of me and Dean is on the other sitting in the backseat. They have their heads in my lap and it seems like they are sleeping. I absentmindedly pet them both while talking with my parents and once we get to the sanctuary we expect them to bolt out the car for freedom once the door is open but they don't. Honestly if it wasn't for the fact they look like wolves you really would think they were dogs, well trained dogs at that. I guess my parents were right, there's no other explanation for how they act other than being wolf dogs that someone abandoned in the woods. Whoever they are probably didn't think they would get so big. The crazy thing is, they probably aren't even half the size they will get to yet because after all they are definitely still puppies, that much I know. I shake my head because it makes me so sad to think people treat animals like that and will never understand how people could just abandon animals.
Once I get out of the car, Sam and Dean follow me. I take them to the gated sanctuary and sit down on the ground again.
"Okay Sam and Dean, this is your new home. This place is called Pack Life Sanctuary and Education Center. There's plenty of land to explore. My parents own it, mom inherited it from her great great grandfather. There's a huge fence around the border so you are safe here. There are other rescued animals here as well. We bring out fresh meat at least twice a day. The Alpha wolf dog is Odin, dad named him, he is pair bonded to Frigg, there's a few other wolf dogs that's part of their pack as well. My house is right here, my bedroom is that window," I say as I point to it, " there's a building in the middle that my parents use to as the learning center and it has a smaller enclosure for people who want to meet the wolf dogs. I don't know why I am telling you all this, but somehow I feel you both understand. Feel free to go roam. I have to go in and get ready for bed, unfortunately I have school tomorrow. I will see you before I leave when I help mom and dad feed you all then I will be back in the afternoon around 2 when I get out of school." I lean down and kiss both their heads earning what can only be described as a happy purr, scratch behind their ears and head in. It's been an exciting weekend and I can't wait to tell my friends about it.
