Milan asked, "So, what's your story? You look like a ninja, someone prepared for this rising a long time ago."
Scarlet explained her quest to stop Victor, and Milan listened intently.
"If what you say is true about the heart producing seeds, then the possible option is that maybe someone went to the Amazon for some research and maybe they carried the virus without them knowing," Milan spoke.
"I'll get some answers once I find the missing person in all this," Scarlet said.
"And how do you know that missing person isn't me?" Scarlet looked at him with a surprising face.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Milan asked. Scarlet took out her knife and threw it at Milan, targeting something else behind him. Milan was shocked seeing a knife going at him. The knife hit a vampire behind Milan, and he turned around shocked. Scarlet walked to the vampire and finished him off while taking back her knife.
"How did this bastard get inside?" Milan asked. Suddenly, they were shocked seeing more vampires coming. Scarlet took out her swords, going to them. Milan prepared a gun.
"No gun," Scarlet shouted at him.
"How do you expect me to fight then?" Scarlet took one of her swords and threw it up. Milan jumped and caught it while slaying two vampires down. More kept coming, and they started fighting them, giving each other's backs.
"There's too many of them, we have to run now," Scarlet spoke.
"It's still dark out there, can we go?"
Milan asked while keeping on fighting. Scarlet saw a hole heading upstairs to the roof.
"The roof," Scarlet spoke while jumping, kicking the vampires. She started running back at Milan as he provided her support to push her up the hole. Scarlet jumped and reached the roof. Milan was surrounded. Scarlet offered him a hand.
"It's now or never," Milan's backpack was far in the middle of the vampires. He couldn't leave without it as he started fighting them while pushing them. Scarlet saw him heading for his backpack.
"What a bastard," Milan managed to get his backpack, turned around, and jumped so high, reaching Scarlet's hand and pulling up. They both reached the roof, and Scarlet snatched her sword back from him.
"What was that back there? What is so important in that backpack that you can't leave it?" Milan's expression turned serious.
"Nothing you need to know," Scarlet was staring at him. Milan walked away to sit alone.
"It's almost dawn," Scarlet spoke to him. Milan shook his head while lying down on the roof. Scarlet stood up and walked to him.
"I told you my part of the story, it's your turn. We can't just lay down here quietly waiting for dawn. Tell me, how did you end up in this mess?" Milan hesitated before speaking.
"I'm trying to get to my sister," Milan started explaining everything.
"Sad story, it must be hard leaving your sister on an operating bed, but are you sure she's still alive after all this chaos?" Scarlet asked.
Milan's eyes filled with determination. "She's tougher than you think. She will survive because I promised her I'd go back for her."
Scarlet seemed quiet as she lay down on the roof beside Milan to take a quick rest.
Inside St. Thomas Hospital, Dr. Patel was still working, studying Zero and Ayanna's blood. It was dawning. Some of the survivors were sleeping, including Emma. Leyla opened her eyes and saw Doc busy with her microscope, studying and observing. She stood up and walked to her.
"Hey, you didn't sleep?" Leyla asked.
Dr. Patel replied, "Someone has to stand watch, in case things go sideways."
"What do you got here?" Leyla asked, looking at the blood samples.
"It's the blood sample A and B, A is for Ayanna and B is for Zero. Whenever I take a good look, I see two different bloods here. Like it's not the same."
"What do you mean?" Leyla asked.
"Ayanna's blood and Zero's blood are two different bloods. Ayanna's blood is acting strangely," Dr. Patel explained.
Leyla was shocked as she took a closer look at the microscope to observe Ayanna's blood. "Doc, it's the same strange blood Nadia had before all this."
Dr. Patel nodded. "I understand. Nadia's blood was acting the same way as Ayanna's, but her blood had some kind of dark calcium. This one is completely fine, if I try to look at every possible disease or virus, it's totally fine."
"Do you think it could be a cure for vampirism?" Leyla asked Doc.
"I don't know, but I need to find out," Doc replied, her eyes fixed on the microscope.
Leyla's expression turned concerned. "What are you planning on doing?"
"We both know I can't test the blood without option B. I need sample C to test the blood," Doc explained.
"You mean vampirism blood?" Leyla asked, her voice laced with worry.
"Yes, I need to see if I can work on creating a cure," Doc said, removing her jacket and preparing to leave.
"Please tell me you don't plan on going out there alone?" Leyla asked, her voice rising.
"It's okay, Leyla. I'll just look for a dead vampire, take their blood, and be on my way ASAP," Doc reassured her, grabbing an injection.
As they argued, Emma opened her eyes and saw them. "I'll be back soon, before they even wake up, Leyla. I need you to make sure no one goes beyond my perimeter," Doc said, walking out of the room.
Leyla watched as Doc closed the door behind her. Meanwhile, Zero, Ayanna, and Alex continued searching the corridors, the rising sun casting a pale glow through the windows.
"The kid is either dead or hiding somewhere in this building. All I know is we can't find her anymore; we have to go back," Alex said, turning around.
Zero blocked his path. "No one is going back until we find Zara. You're the reason she bolted off. At least you should look for her."
"She wouldn't have survived. By now, the vampires have already got her. And I don't want to risk my chances," Alex replied, trying to push past Zero.
Zero stood firm. "Move, or you will be moved."
"Let him go, Zero. He's useless anyway," Ayanna said, earning a glare from Alex.
"I'm sorry, who the hell are you again?" Alex snapped.
Just then, a faint scream echoed through the corridors. "That is Zara," Zero said, sprinting towards the sound. Ayanna followed, with Alex reluctantly joining them.
They found Zara surrounded by vampires, hiding on top of a wardrobe. Alex started shooting, and Ayanna joined in, though she struggled to defend herself. Zero reached Zara. "Hey, jump now. I'll catch you."
Zara jumped, and Zero caught her. As more vampires approached, Alex discarded his empty gun. "I think it's time we all have to run."
"Hold on to me so tight," Zero said, carrying Zara on his back as they fled. They ran, vampires hot on their heels, until they reached a dead end. The door ahead was locked, and there was no escape.
"What now?" Alex asked, panic creeping into his voice.
Zara closed her eyes, hugging Zero tightly. "Now we die," Zero said, as the vampires closed in.
