Inside the front yard, vegetables were planted neatly in small plots. They must have been left behind by the former occupant, someone careful and orderly.
When Mary entered the house, she could tell at a glance that it had been cleaned thoroughly before being vacated. The layout was spacious: three rooms, a large living room, and a kitchen and bathroom far bigger than the ones they were used to.
She was immediately satisfied.
The only problem was the furniture.
The living room needed a proper sofa. The bed in the bedroom was still there, but it looked old. After their previous experience, Mary had no intention of keeping it. Beds were something that absolutely had to be replaced.
A television was also necessary. Even if it was just for watching the news, it would make life feel more complete.
"Not bad, right?" Ryan asked, watching her expression carefully. "Unless I get transferred, we'll be living here for the next few years."
