The kiss was gentle, unhurried, nothing like a storm. Yet the softness only made her heart race faster.
She responded unconsciously, her breath growing shallow, and when he finally pulled back, Ryan wrapped his arms around her tightly.
"Wife," he murmured near her ear, voice low, "are you satisfied? Should we… truly become husband and wife?"
Mary pushed him back slightly and met his gaze head-on.
"If you want me," she said calmly, though her cheeks were still flushed, "then it's for a lifetime. Think carefully. If one day you betray me or take another woman, I might not kill you… But I will never forgive you."
Ryan froze for a second. She had been blushing just moments ago, yet now her eyes were steady and resolute. Feeling the faint tremble in his own body, he coughed lightly, trying to cover it.
