Chapter 17 - Chapter 14: Same Day, Different Mornings

Kiefer's POV

Friday morning.

I woke up smiling.

Like—actually smiling.

My alarm hadn't even finished ringing before I sat up, already humming. Today wasn't just any Friday. Today had weight. Meaning. History.

lo

Our anniversary.

I got dressed carefully, like the universe was watching. Jacket on. Shoes perfect. Bag over my shoulder. I even checked myself twice in the mirror.

She's going to love the gift, I thought, heart lifting.

She has to.

I headed downstairs whistling, unable to stop myself.

Keiren and Keagan were already there.

"Morning," I said.

Keiren raised an eyebrow. Keagan grinned like he'd just discovered sugar.

"I'll drop you both at school today," I added.

Keagan practically exploded. "REALLY?"

He ran upstairs so fast I thought gravity stopped working. A minute later, he came back dressed almost like me—same colors, same vibe—except he wore a hoodie while I had a jacket.

Mini-me.

Annoyingly cute.

In the car, Keagan kept staring at me.

"Why are you so happy today?" he finally asked.

Before I could answer, Keiren spoke up.

"It's their anniversary."

Keagan gasped. "How do you know?"

Keiren smirked. "Watch this."

He grabbed my phone.

"Hey—"

Too late.

He used his phone to call mine.

🎶 TODAY IS YOUR ANNIVERSARY 🎶

🎶 TODAY IS YOUR ANNIVERSARY 🎶

🎶 TODAY IS YOUR ANNIVERSARY 🎶

🎶 TODAY IS YOUR ANNIVERSARY 🎶

🎶 TODAY IS YOUR ANNIVERSARY 🎶

Five times.

I burst out laughing. "Okay, okay—thanks for the reminder."

Keiren snapped a picture of us. "Outfit check," he said proudly.

We dropped them off at the same place—same school now. Watching them walk in together felt… strange. Like time was moving too fast.

I drove straight to the university.

I was late.

Great.

I rushed into class just before the lecturer arrived and dropped into my usual seat beside David and Yuri.

"Morning," David whispered.

I nodded, still smiling.

Class started. I tried to focus. I really did.

But my thoughts kept drifting.

Is she already awake?

Did she like the message I sent last night?

What if she hates the gift? No—she won't. Right?

My eyelids grew heavy.

Just for a second.

Just—

The bell rang.

I jolted awake.

Class over.

Perfect, I thought. Productivity king.
