Chapter Seventy-Seven – Paranormal Realm 73
"How old is this place?" I asked as we walked.
"The original structure is about fifteen hundred years old," Lucian replied. "I've expanded and renovated over the centuries, but the core is original. It was built by a vampire lord before me, and I inherited it when he passed on his title."
"Passed on his title? I thought vampire lords just lived forever."
"We do, mostly. But some choose to move on when they grow tired of the responsibility. Others meet unfortunate ends." He said it matter-of-factly, like discussing the weather. "The castle has had seven lords before me. I've been here the longest."
We passed several vampires in the corridors, and each one stopped what they were doing to bow or nod respectfully to Lucian. Most of them looked at me with undisguised curiosity, their eyes lingering on my very obvious pregnancy, but none of them said anything. It was simultaneously respectful and slightly unnerving.
