"Good. That's what they should be doing."
"It's overwhelming sometimes."
"Get used to it. It'll get worse when the children are here."
Alexei made a sound that might have been agreement. "You have family nearby?"
"My parents. They're about an hour away."
"You see them often?"
"I call them every day. They visited last week."
"That's good. You'll need them." He paused. "We're here too, if you need us. For anything."
I looked at him. He was still looking straight ahead, walking with the measured pace of someone who knew these paths well.
"Thank you," I said.
"No thanks needed. You're family now."
Marcus nodded. "What he said. You need something, you call. Doesn't matter what it is. We're not far."
Something in my chest did that tight thing again.
"Okay," I said quietly.
