Maxx's mouth curved. "Every single minute?"
"Damon called three times this morning. It was seven am. I was asleep."
"Did he leave a voicemail?"
"He left a voicemail, two texts, and I'm fairly certain he mind-linked Krabb to check the security perimeter around our street."
Maxx pressed his lips together very hard.
"You can laugh," I said.
He laughed. It was a real one, the kind that reached his eyes, and for a moment he looked completely like himself, uncomplicated and present, and I was glad to see it.
"In their defense," he said, recovering, "you did faint on a bathroom floor."
"I was fine."
"You were unconscious."
"For a very manageable amount of time."
"Rowan."
"I'm just saying, the level of hovering is slightly disproportionate to the duration of the unconsciousness."
Maxx shook his head. "You're going to be the most dramatic pregnant person in this entire continent."
