Outside, the sun was fully up now.
A new day had started.
And I had seven days to prepare for something that could either validate my entire existence here or tear it apart.
No pressure. It's not like I can escape from it.
By mid-afternoon, I was going stir-crazy.
My parents had barely let me out of their sight all morning. Mom kept finding reasons to check on me every ten minutes, and Dad had positioned himself in the living room like a guard dog. Damon and Nicklaus had gone back to the pack house to coordinate with their warriors, but I knew they'd be back soon.
I needed air. I needed space. I needed my best friend.
"I'm going to see Maxx," I announced.
Mom looked up from where she was stress-cooking in the kitchen. Again. We now had enough food to feed the entire pack. "Rowan. . ."
"Mom, I'm going two houses down. I'll literally be in shouting distance."
"Take your phone," Dad said immediately.
"Already have it."
