Chapter Forty-Five – Paranormal Realm 43
The car was moving fast. Too fast.
I could feel it in the way my body kept pressing against the seat, in the way the trees outside were just dark blurs now instead of actual shapes. My hands were shaking. I tried to stop them, but they wouldn't listen.
"Wait!" I shouted suddenly, leaning forward. "We have to go back! Nicklaus is still there!"
Damon was driving now. His hands were tight on the steering wheel, knuckles white. He didn't look at me when he spoke.
"No."
That single word hit me like a wall.
"What do you mean no?" My voice came out higher than I wanted it to. "We can't just leave him there with all those vampires!"
"Rowan." Damon's voice was calm, but there was something underneath it. Something hard and final. "Nicklaus doesn't want you there."
I felt like I'd been slapped. "He doesn't. . . what are you talking about? Of course he wants me there, I should be helping. . ."
