Chapter Forty-Four – Paranormal Realm 42
Inside the car, I sat there like I'd forgotten how to be a normal person.
The interior was quiet. Like, really quiet. The kind of quiet that only comes with expensive things. The seats were soft leather, and when I ran my hands over them, they felt smooth and cool. The air had this clean smell to it, kind of like rain mixed with wood polish. The engine made this low humming sound that was actually pretty relaxing, and outside the windows, everything was just blurring past. Trees, mostly. Deep green ones. Sometimes we'd pass a building or two, and the roads curved gently through the continent like they were taking their time getting anywhere.
I folded my hands in my lap. Then I unfolded them because that felt weird. I rested one hand on the seat beside me. Then I pulled it back.
This was stupid. Why was I being so awkward?
I crossed my ankles. Then uncrossed them because that didn't feel right either.
