Siberian Base — Mutant Evolution House No. 2
At the core of this massive ice-covered base, a group of scientists in white lab coats worked busily around an extremely advanced piece of machinery.
Boom.
A gigantic distortion suddenly appeared in the area, and Lancelot and the others stepped out of it.
"My King."
The busy scientists immediately bowed respectfully to Lancelot.
"Raven, arrange accommodations for our mutant companions," Lancelot said with a nod, turning to Mystique.
"Yes, Master."
Mystique was already familiar with this task. She quickly led all the mutants to their living quarters.
Soon, only Lancelot, Professor X, and the X-Men remained in the area.
"Dr. Leonard, inject Professor X with the recovery serum," Lancelot said calmly after glancing at Charles' injuries.
"At once, my King."
Dr. Leonard took out a vial of recovery potion from his coat and injected it directly into Professor X's body.
The moment the serum entered his system, the pain vanished from Professor X's face, and the sharp ache in his waist faded like melting snow.
One minute later, his injuries were completely healed.
"What kind of elixir is this…? It's incredible," Professor X said in shock, his pupils shrinking slightly as he looked at Lancelot.
"This is a recovery serum developed by Darwin through adaptive evolution. We have many such potions in the Evolution House."
Lancelot gave Charles a meaningful look and led him and the others deeper inside—to the core experimental zone.
"This is… a cerebral wave amplification device?"
Beast, Hank McCoy, stared at the massive machine in disbelief.
He knew this device very well—it was based on his own research.
Yet compared to the one at Xavier's Mansion, this version was larger, more powerful, and far more advanced.
"My lord, why have you brought us here?" Professor X frowned slightly, unable to understand Lancelot's intentions.
"As I said before—saving lives comes at a price."
"Now it's time for you to pay that price, Professor X."
Lancelot guided Charles to the chair in front of the machine and placed a futuristic helmet over his head.
"Use your ability to alter the minds of all high-level humans. Make them forget this incident."
Professor X's eyes widened in disbelief.
At that moment, he finally understood what Lancelot meant by the price of saving lives.
The King of Mutants intended to forcibly rewrite the thoughts of Earth's ruling elite.
It was madness.
Though it was technically possible with the amplification device, it would permanently alter the thinking of humanity's leaders.
Professor X showed a rare trace of pain and hesitation. This went against everything he believed in.
Even when World War III once seemed inevitable, he had never considered doing something like this.
But faced with Lancelot's unwavering gaze, he dared not refuse.
He had no bargaining power.
"Charles Xavier," Lancelot said coldly,
"you possess the Sword of Damocles. With a single thought, you could change the fate of all humanity—yet you chose to hide it and allow humans to trample over mutants."
"Should I call you naïve… or foolish?"
As Lancelot said, Professor X himself was the ultimate deterrent.
If he had ever truly hung that sword above humanity's head, humans would never have dared act recklessly.
He had the power to solve the mutant crisis completely—yet his mercy led to a future where Sentinels nearly wiped mutants from existence.
"Now, release your full potential. End the war before it's even born."
Lancelot placed his hand on Professor X's shoulder.
Hmph.
In Charles' vision, a bird burned mid-flight as his Geass-like power spiraled out of control.
All hesitation vanished.
Boom!
Professor X unleashed his psychic power. The massive machine erupted with light, and Lancelot felt as though he were standing in the depths of space.
Countless stars shimmered—billions of lights overlapping.
Among them, occasional red flares appeared.
Lancelot knew those were mutants.
"We've found them," Professor X said softly as images appeared before Lancelot's eyes.
The White House.
Secret military bases.
The homes of congressional leaders.
As long as they were on Earth, every senior U.S. official was now within Charles' reach.
At that very moment, the U.S. President was furious over the destruction of a warship in international waters near Cuba.
Even as reporters prepared for a live broadcast, the President reviewed his final speech in the White House.
"War… this is war."
He read silently, then nodded to the Secretary of State.
"Let's begin."
Reporters flooded in.
"Today marks a historic moment. Our fleet in the waters near Cuba—"
The entire world watched.
"Do it, Charles," Lancelot said, patting his shoulder.
Instantly, Professor X seized control of the President's mind.
"Due to the tensions of the Cold War, our fleet's heightened alertness led to a tragic operational error, detonating its own ammunition and causing this disaster."
"This is a warning to humanity. We must not shift blame for our own mistakes."
"For the sake of learning from history and welcoming a better future, I hereby announce that the United States will withdraw from Cold War deterrence."
The war ended.
Boom!
The world was stunned.
U.S. military leaders quickly expressed support, announcing a full halt to mobilization.
The shadow of the Cold War vanished overnight.
Soon after, the Soviet leadership also announced withdrawal from Cold War hostilities, choosing instead to focus on economic development.
