Morgan landed on the floor, shooting up instantly as her hand shot out to snatch the covers off of him.
"What the hell is your problem!"
She let go of his blanket, kicking it away once it landed on the floor. With her usual smile, she pointed at herself.
"I'm bored."
...
Moments later, Morgan was wrapped in a shadow tentacle and thrown out the door before it closed behind her.
"If you don't open this door I'll cut it down."
The door instantly opened. Sunny groaned, rubbing his eyes as he walked out the room. Who needed sleep anyways right?
He did.
Glaring at Morgan, he turned on the lights, letting his eyes tense at the flash. She walked over to the table where a bag was.
"Oh yeah, on my way here I stopped to get something for us to do."
Wait, don't tell him..
"Did you come back and instantly wake me up..? What store is even open right now, it's like two in the morning.."
It's not like he hasn't stayed up late before. He's actually stayed up for days on end, battled countless nightmares while in the deepest of sleep as well. But as a fashionable man once told him, beauty sleep is a need.
"Small details are small for a reason, they're miniscule, insignificant, and utterly pointless to bring up. Should we really waste time going over the smallest of details when we coul-"
Sunny sent one of his shadows to shoot out and wrap around her mouth, causing her muffled voice to come out. Suddenly, a sensation ran down his entire body as he had to hold in a sound coming out from his mouth.
"D-Did you just lick my shadow?!"
He wasted no time calling his shadow back. He could see it shivering in the corner of his eye. Morgan didn't respond. She simply stared at the shadow behind him.
"Can you sent it back on my face agian really quic-"
"No!"
He clutched his head, embarrassment, annoyance, and another feeling he didn't want to mention running through his mind. She sighed before walking back over to the bag, taking out what she had bought.
That being a simple board game. It was a popular game. He knew that because the box of it always ended up in the outskirts trash.
"The game of awakened huh. How do you play? The boxes were always so damaged I never was able to read them."
She started setting it up on the table. It had multiple player pieces, but she only took out two for obvious reasons.
"It's simple. You start as a sleeper and choose one of 4 nightmares, and then you go through the options on the board and it tells you where to go depending on your choice. Whoever becomes a saint the fastest wins."
Well, that seemed fairly simple. Sitting down at opposite ends of the table, they both picked up their pieces, and he had a feeling that she picked them on purpose. A black knight was his piece, and a red princess was her's.
Drawing four cards, she placed them on the table. Each had a slip to be peeled back, which he assumed was supposed to tell them where they went on the board so they didnt make decisions based off of that.
"Well let's start then, we have four options we each can pick, different or the same."
She picked up the cards before talking agian.
"Pick your first nightmare, option one being surviving a great blizzard with a terror hunting you, option two being saving a village from a horde of nightmare creatures, option three being slaughtering a village of humans, and the final option being reach the summit of a mountain that is covered with nightmare creatures."
This was supposed to be a kids game right? Wasn't this kind of well.. violent? Still, his decision was pretty easy.
"I'll take option one."
Morgan looked suprised. Still, she gave him the card while she picked option four.
"May I ask you why you picked one? You don't strike me as the most thrill seeking person."
He smiled, twirling the card in his hand. There were many reasons why he chose it, the main one being the harder the first nightmare, the greater the rewards, right?
"It was more so a process of elimination. Protecting a village? We can assume if even one casualty happens it could have negative effects. Killing a village? I know someone who would take that option and I personally loathe that person, so thats my reason for that. Reaching a summit does sound the easiest out the four, yet I dont feel very inclined to pick it just for that reason.. now can I ask you why you picked four?"
She picked up her piece, her hand reaching towards the slip to reveal where she should move it, but before she did, she spoke.
"Well, I'm not the best people person, and number four seems sort of like a peaceful solitude, excluding all the nightmare creatures of course."
That actually was fair enough.. At the same time, they took the slips off the cards, revealing their outcomes.
"I received a sacred aspect that let me gain the abilities of nightmare creatures I eat apart of.. my flaw is that the more I consume the more humanity I lose."
It made sense. Nobody really knew that divine aspects existed, so receiving sacred basically meant he received the strongest of the group, just as he had expected.
Morgan let out a sigh of defeat as she let him read her card.. It was in short brutal and good at the same time.
The aspect of allowing your body to endure harsh conditions of any type, but the flaw basically canceled it out by making it so while you'll survive harsh conditions, you'll feel the effects 10x more than normal.
He could see a blood vessel bulging on her head. He personally had to hold back the laughter, which caused her to glare at him.
"Let's just go onto the next choice.."
After placing the pieces where they were told to go, Sunny was far ahead of Morgan. She picked up the next set and read them out.
"It's time to pick where you want to land in the dream realm. Option one in a death zone that is guaranteed to have atleast one titan, option two near the citadel of a saint, option three being in the middle of the dream realms ocean, and option four being in a forest where all the trees and plants are nightmare creatures."
Instantly, ocean was off the list. Same with the death zone. Even he knew his limits. Next off was the saint's citadel, leaving only one option left.
"I'll take the forest."
She handed him the card before she picked up the death zone card.
"Thanks to you I know how this game works now. The hardest option is always the greatest."
Both of them peeled the slips back. Before reading his, he read Morgan's.
It simply read 'You died go back to square one'
"Pfft."
"What's so funny huh..?"
With a grin, he peeled his back, saying he made it out and became an awakened.
"You have to pick ones that align with your aspect. I chose the forest because the population of nightmare creatures works well with my aspect.. you should have chose the ocean since you could survive the harsh conditions at the very least."
These rounds kept going on, until finally they were at the final question before going on to the third nightmare, and somehow Morgan had caught up to him.
"There's only two cards now, meaning two options. It's either you go to the America campaign where category 5 gates opened in order to contain the nightmare creatures heading to your continent, or would you take your family, move continents, and retire as a master, leaving behind your home."
This was one he had to think on. In the end, it was just a game, yet for some reason he thought he should give a serious answer. If he was put into this situation, which one would he choose?
Both him and Morgan took their cards. In the end, they chose different options. He had chosen to go to America, while Morgan chose to move.
"If I may ask, why would you choose to go?"
He was staring at the card he chose, so he didn't know what type of face she was making.
"Well.. I wanted to choose the second option, but in the end I guess my views were different than I thought. Rather than staying safe, I would rather make the world a safe place for my family."
He peeled the slip back. It simply read out 'you have died but your continent is safe.'
Yeah, that was enough for him.
Looking up, he saw Morgan looking at his card before dropping her own. Suddenly, a shift in the air came as Morgan's face came flying towards his, their lips only inches away from touching.
"Goodnight Sunny."
With those words, she gave him a smile, but it wasn't her usual one.
As this one made his heart skip a beat.. only for a second of course.
