Chapter 37 - Thor's Death and Odin's Tears

The wind howled, and thunder roared.

The Stormbreaker, shimmering with a ghostly blue electric arc, carried Thor's lifelong divine power and fury, carving a vacuum corridor through the air.

"For Asgard!!!"

Thor's roar made the glass curtain walls of the entire stadium tremble.

Facing this blow, Frieza, suspended in mid-air, didn't even bat an eyelid, instead casually picking his ear with his pinky finger.

"What a rude opening."

"Do you, a mere monkey with a new toy, deserve to have Lord Frieza personally deal with you?"

Standing behind Frieza, Apocalypse, who had been holding a shameful pose, moved.

As the progenitor of mutants, as a god who once ruled Egypt, though he was as humble as a dog before Frieza, he remained an arrogant overlord before these Avengers.

This was his excellent opportunity to prove himself to his new master.

"Audacious madman! You shall not touch His Majesty in the slightest!"

A hint of savagery flashed across Apocalypse's blue face as he stomped forward, clenching his hands in the air.

Buzz!

A massive telekinetic force, enough to distort the air, like an invisible giant hand, fiercely grabbed at the charging Thor.

"Kneel before me!"

Apocalypse was full of confidence.

On this planet, apart from that bald professor, no one could resist his mental control and telekinetic suppression.

However—

The next second, the expression on Apocalypse's blue face instantly froze.

Crack!

It was like a fragile spiderweb trying to stop a high-speed train.

His telekinetic field, upon contact with Stormbreaker's raging thunder, was instantly torn to shreds.

No obstruction! Not even a microsecond of pause!

Thor was enveloped in Asgard's purest divine power, and his eyes, spewing lightning, held only determination.

"Get out of my way!!!"

Boom!

Thor didn't even swing his axe. The sheer energy shockwave from his charge slammed into Apocalypse's hastily erected protective shield.

"Pfft—!"

Apocalypse felt as if he had been hit head-on by a planet, and a mouthful of blue blood gushed out. His robust body, like a cannonball fired from a barrel, plummeted hundreds of meters from the sky.

With a piercing whoosh, he crashed heavily into the audience stands of the stadium below.

Rumble—

Dust billowed, and reinforced concrete crumbled like tofu dregs.

Apocalypse was deeply embedded in the ground, impossible to extricate, his fate unknown.

Erik, Sebastian, Juggernaut, and the others, who had been striking Ginyu Force poses, now froze.

That was Apocalypse!

He was the strongest combatant among them, by common consensus.

And he was instantly defeated by that big, blonde idiot with an axe?

"Is this... is this the power of the Asgardian gods?" Loki gulped, looking at his lightning-clad brother, feeling a sense of unfamiliarity and dread for the first time.

Meanwhile, on the ground.

The previously despairing Avengers' eyes instantly erupted with ecstatic light.

"Well done, Thor!" Tony excitedly pumped his fist.

"Jarvis, did you see that? That's the horn of a counterattack."

"The power of a god..."

Charles felt the faintness of Apocalypse's brainwaves, and a glimmer of hope ignited in his heart. "Perhaps, we really can win."

Peter was so excited he almost shot a web at Steve's face.

"So cool! Is this Thor?!"

Just when everyone thought the dawn of victory was about to arrive—

"Sigh..."

A soft sigh drifted down from high above.

Though not loud, it clearly overpowered the thunderous sky.

Frieza looked at the large crater below, a look of disdain on his face. It was like seeing his dog bitten by the neighbor's chihuahua.

"Oh dear, Captain Apocalypse."

Frieza shook his head, his tone full of mocking disappointment.

"You couldn't even stop a wild monkey with an axe. It seems your understanding of your own strength is still insufficient."

"You've disgraced me."

By this time, Thor had charged right in front of Frieza.

The distance was less than ten meters.

The Stormbreaker, capable of cleaving through the energy flow of an Infinity Stone, was raised high. Its blade glinted with deadly cold light, aiming directly for Frieza's forehead.

"Die, monster!!!"

This axe strike gathered all of Thor's hatred, all his divine power, and Asgard's last glory.

Facing this fatal blow, Frieza merely tilted his head slightly, his crimson pupils showing no fear, only a hint of amusement at an ant's struggle.

"Although my captain is useless, as the saying goes, when you beat a dog, you have to consider its owner."

Frieza slowly raised his right hand, his index and middle fingers together.

"Since you're so eager to die, I'll be merciful and send you on your way."

Whoosh! Whoosh!

Two hair-thin purplish-red beams of light instantly shot from his fingertips.

Too fast!

Clang! Clang!

Two crisp metallic shattering sounds rang out.

The legendary Stormbreaker, said to be able to contend with the Infinity Gauntlet and forged from the core of a neutron star—

The moment it touched those two seemingly weak beams of light, it was like a biscuit hit by a high-pressure water jet.

The axe blade shattered! The axe handle broke!

The divine weapon was destroyed!

"What?!"

Thor's pupils contracted violently, and before his brain could process this terrifying information, Frieza's figure had vanished from his original spot.

The next instant, an elegant yet cruel face appeared before Thor.

"Too slow."

Bang! Bang!

Frieza's seemingly light punches landed squarely on Thor's abdomen.

"Ugh—!"

Thor, the strongest warrior of the Nine Realms, had his eyeballs instantly bulge.

A large mouthful of blood mixed with fragments of internal organs spurted out, staining Frieza's pristine white gloves.

His divine body trembled and his divine power dissipated.

In just two punches, all his internal organs had been turned to mush.

"Is this a god?"

Frieza grabbed Thor's golden hair, lifting his painfully twisted face to his own.

Watching the light in Thor's eyes gradually fade, Frieza curled his lips into a cruel smile.

"You're so fragile it's laughable."

"Next life, remember to stay far away from the Emperor of the Universe."

Frieza extended his other hand, aiming it at Thor's head.

In his palm, purple light furiously converged.

"No!!!" Tony on the ground let out a heart-wrenching roar.

Boom!

Light erupted.

No miracle, no reversal.

It was like crushing a ripe watermelon.

Thor's head instantly vaporized in the purple energy wave, leaving not a speck behind.

Plop.

Frieza released his hand.

The headless divine corpse, devoid of its head, fell weakly from high in the sky.

With a dull thud, it crashed heavily in front of Tony, kicking up a cloud of dust.

That was Thor, the God of Thunder.

The man who was once so arrogant, shouting "For the glory of Asgard."

Now, only a cold corpse remained.

At the same time.

In distant Asgard.

Odin, the All-Father, was sitting on his throne and observing all this with his divine power. A stream of murky tears slowly flowed from his single eye.

Earth.

Tony stiffly lowered his head, looking at the faintly twitching corpse at his feet, its red cape soaked in blood. His face was ashen, and his stomach churned.

Dead?

The so-called strongest Thor, killed like a chicken?

Is this absolute power?

Steve's hand, gripping his shield, trembled violently.

Charles closed his eyes, unable to watch further.

Peter collapsed on the ground in fear, forgetting to even breathe.

Utter despair, like a cold, massive hand, tightly gripped everyone's hearts.

"How boring."

Frieza flicked the blood from his hand, then pulled out a white handkerchief and elegantly wiped it.

He looked down from above at the terrified superheroes, a hint of displeasure flashing in his crimson eyes.

"I originally wanted to properly explain the rules of the game to you all. But you wild monkeys just had to jump out and cause trouble at this moment."

Frieza casually tossed aside the blood-stained handkerchief as if it were trash.

"Your stupidity and disrespect have successfully enraged me."

"Since you refuse to learn how to respect the Emperor of the Universe, I'll just have to give you a small lesson to cool down your feverish brains."

Frieza raised his left hand, and the blue Space Stone glowed fiercely.

Zzzzzzz!

Space was torn apart.

A massive blue portal, hundreds of meters wide, appeared out of thin air above New York. Through that enormous gate, everyone could clearly see the scene on the other side—it was a God's eye view of a whole country.

"That's..." Steve looked up sharply, a deeply ominous premonition rising in his heart.

Frieza slowly raised his right index finger. On his fingertip, a miniature energy ball, black as ink and emanating a heart-stopping aura, spun rapidly.

That was a Death Ball!

But this time, it was even deeper, even more terrifying than the one that destroyed Washington.

Frieza looked at the camera, at the Avengers, and flashed the smile that gave the whole world nightmares.

"This is the price of your disobedience."

"If you dare to disrespect me again, overestimating yourselves..."

Frieza flicked his finger lightly.

The black Death Ball gracefully flew into the portal, heading straight for the portal.

"Then, this country will be the fate of all of you."

"Repent in those dazzling fireworks. Ohohoho..."
