Chapter 43 - The Last Hope—Gone

Black Cat, Felicia.

She licked her lips, her eyes playfully watching Peter.

"Your webs are quite strong."

She approached seductively. "Interested in working with me?"

"With your skills and my brains, there's nothing in this world we can't steal."

Peter's face flushed, and he quickly waved his hands. "Uh... I have a girlfriend. And I'm a superhero, I don't steal."

"No fun at all." Felicia's eyes turned cold, and her claws extended.

"Then don't blame me for leaving a mark on you."

The two instantly clashed.

The entire battlefield descended into chaos.

T'Challa and Clint were locked in fierce combat with Natasha and Maria, the former S.H.I.E.L.D. agents.

Charles sat in his wheelchair, hiding behind cover, pressing his fingers to his temples, covered in sweat. He was trying to find a weakness in the demon in the sky, even a tiny mental crack.

But he found Frieza's mental world to be like an abyss filled with slaughter and coldness. Even a slight touch would cause frostbite.

"Too strong... completely impenetrable..." Charles mumbled in despair.

At this moment.

Reed, who had been hiding in the shadows, finally finished calibrating his ultimate weapon.

The Anti-Matter Negative Zone Projection Cannon was now glowing with an unsettling blue light. Its barrel was locked onto Frieza in mid-air.

"Now!"

A fervent gleam flashed in Reed's eyes. "He's too arrogant, he hasn't even noticed me."

"If this shot hits, even a god will be exiled to the Negative Zone, never to return."

"Charge 100%! Fire!"

Reed took a deep breath, his finger slamming down on the red launch button.

This might be humanity's last chance!

But just as his finger was one centimeter away from the button—

Bang!

A sudden gunshot.

Reed's palm instantly exploded into a spray of blood, and he cried out in pain, collapsing to the ground.

"What?!" Steve heard the commotion behind him and sharply turned around.

He saw Brock Rumlow, who had been responsible for the outer perimeter. He was now holding a smoking pistol, a sinister and ferocious smile on his face.

Behind him were a dozens of fully armed S.H.I.E.L.D. agents.

No, they were Hydra agents.

They instantly shed their disguises, aiming their guns at Reed and Johnny.

"Rumlow! Are you crazy?!" Steve roared, simultaneously rushing to Reed's side.

"I'm not crazy, Captain, I'm perfectly sober."

Brock sneered, pulled a remote control from his pocket, and pressed it without hesitation.

Boom!!!

The C4 explosives installed beneath the anti-matter cannon's base instantly detonated. The machine, which carried humanity's last hope, turned into a pile of scrap metal in a brilliant flash of fire.

"No!!!"

Reed ignored the searing pain in his hand, watching his life's work destroyed, and let out a desperate roar.

Rumlow watched the scene, without a trace of pity in his eyes, only a desire for survival and submission to power.

He looked up at the god-like figure in the sky, raising his left arm high.

"The Avengers are finished! S.H.I.E.L.D. is finished!"

He roared fanatically at his subordinates, and to the whole world.

"This world belongs to the strong!"

"Everyone, listen up! Kill them all!"

Brock raised his left hand.

The pistol that had just shattered humanity's last hope was tossed at his feet.

He looked up at the god-like figure high in the sky, his face filled with an almost fawning, fanatical smile.

"Lord Frieza! I am Brock Rumlow of Hydra!"

"I have cleared the obstacle for you! That cannon has been destroyed!"

"Hydra is willing to pledge allegiance to you!"

"We have a global intelligence network, we can help you better rule these foolish..."

Brock's voice cracked with excitement, and he even knelt on one knee, adopting a posture of submission.

Behind him, dozens of remaining Hydra agents followed suit, dropping their weapons and kneeling amidst the wreckage.

This scene sent a chill down the spines of all the superheroes present.

This was humanity, ugly and sickening.

High above.

Frieza stood with his arms crossed.

He slightly lowered his head, his crimson eyes piercing through the clouds, coldly observing the ants wagging their tails below.

"Oh?"

A playful smile appeared on Frieza's lips, his voice, carried by the air, clearly echoing across the entire field.

"Hydra? Allegiance?"

Hearing the response, Brock was ecstatic, believing he had made the right gamble.

"Yes, my lord. We can not only fight, but also help you manage..."

"Oh dear."

Frieza suddenly sighed, interrupting him, his tone filled with regret and disdain.

"While I appreciate those who know how to adapt to circumstances, but..."

Frieza extended a finger and gently wagged it.

"Did you perhaps misunderstand something?"

"Three days ago, I already issued a recruitment advertisement to the entire Earth. Where were you then?"

"Now, when I'm about to overturn the chessboard, when I'm about to take Earth into my grasp, you jump out and say you want to pledge allegiance?"

Frieza's eyes instantly turned bone-chillingly cold, and the look of utter contempt, as if looking at garbage, instantly froze the smile on Brock's face.

"It's like everyone has finished eating and is ready to pay the bill, and you run over and say you want to treat everyone?"

"This kind of opportunistic fence-sitting behavior..."

"My great self hates it the most."

Brock's pupils contracted violently, and cold sweat instantly drenched his back.

"No... it's not like that! My lord! We..."

"Shut up, you trash."

Frieza didn't even bother to look at him again. He just casually waved his hand, as if shooing away a group of flies.

Before his words faded—

On the ground.

Reed, who had been kneeling in the ruins, staring blankly at the pile of scrap metal, slowly stood up.

His eyes were bloodshot.

The usual rational, calm scientist, who always tried to solve everything with science, was gone. In his place was a father who had lost hope, a beast consumed by rage.

"You... destroyed our last chance..."

Reed's voice was hoarse, like sandpaper rubbing.

His body began to stretch eerily and his arms, like two giant pythons, instantly shot out.

Puff!

Brock didn't even have time to react before the rubber-like arms wrapped tightly around his neck.

"Uh... cough..."

He desperately clawed at Reed's arms. But the rubber tightened further and further, and the sensation of choking made his eyeballs bulge.

"Reed! No!" Susan exclaimed.

But Reed was deaf to her words.

"For Franklin... for Valeria... for all humanity..."

Reed gritted his teeth, tears mixed with blood streaming down his face.

"Die!!!"

Crack!

A teeth-grinding sound of bone breaking echoed.

Brock's head slumped limply to one side and his eyes, once filled with ambition and fear, slowly lost their light.

At the same time, Steve also moved. He said nothing, just silently threw his shield.

In his blue eyes, there was no longer the mercy of old.

Facing these traitors who had destroyed their last hope, he showed no mercy.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The shield ricocheted between the Hydra agents, each impact taking a sinful life.

Blood stained the ruins.

However, even with the internal traitors cleared, the situation on the battlefield did not improve in the slightest.

In fact, it worsened.
