Chapter 36 - 35

Werza heard Felmer's answer and stared at him. He studied the young man, looking at him from top to bottom.

'An interesting young man.' Werza thought.

"Fine…The trial begins…"

Felmer looked at Werza and felt someone running behind him. He turned and saw a soldier clad in black, running at him. Before Felmer could do anything, the soldier delivered a powerful blow and threw him backwards.

"Your objective is to defeat the soldier. Use your magic…Efficiently." Werza said and then sat. He was floating, sitting in the air.

Felmer stood and hit his palm on his hand. He drew his sword and stood alert. The soldier again emerged from his right, and Felmer hit him. But nothing happened, and he was thrown back again.

Felmer stood, his hand on his butt.

'Damn. That hurt…What's his deal?' He thought.

Felmer stood again, focused his magic in his sword and stood ready for the soldiers. The patterns emerged, and then the soldier again rushed at him. Felmer attacked and was again thrown back.

"Flashy blades don't represent your power," Werza said.

Felmer again stood, again gathered magic, and again attacked the soldier. But the fate remained the same. Felmer tried again and again and only fell on his butt.

'At this rate, I may never pass…' He thought.

"You are too worried about the outside world. Your focus isn't consistent," Werza spoke again.

Felmer stood and again confronted the soldier. But he failed again. Then, he stood straight. He began to think.

'Last time, I succeeded by using Wernia's advice. What if I use the last two as well?' Felmer thought. 'But this may take too long, and the riders may come…'

He again gathered magic and again fell on his butt.

'Ugh!!! I have no choice…'

He stood straight and took his stance. He closed his eyes and first calmed his mind. He focused on one thing. 'Defeat the soldier.' After relaxing and focusing his mind, he switched to his heart. He breathed calmly and calmed his heart. He relaxed his body and let the blood flow smoothly. Then he gathered his magic in the sword and attacked the rushing soldier. But he failed again.

He stood and looked ahead. His mind, heart, and blood flow were still working calmly. Suddenly, a lesson of General Irfika resonated in his mind.

"When focusing on magic, think of it as a field where the wind is blowing wildly. Focus and calm the wind. When the wind is calm, focus your magic."

'Fine…let's try this.' He thought.

Felmer imagined himself in a vast field. He opened his eyes and saw the winds blowing wildly. He breathed calmly and tried to calm the wind. He relaxed his whole body and let the air and the blood flow throughout his body. He did it again, and after all, relaxed the wild wind. The wind has transformed into a cool and calm breeze.

Felmer closed his eyes and took his stance. He channelled the magic into his blade. He focused the magic and imbued the blade with it. He felt the tree branches grow within him. He opened his eyes and looked at his sword. The blade was full of green branches and glowed brightly. His cyan eyes shone with the same energy. He could feel the magic surging within him.

Soon, the soldier emerged and rushed at Felmer. Felmer swung his sword at the soldier, and the blade cut through it. He had succeeded.

He stood straight, and Werza stood beside him, faintly smiling. A rock and a paper were in his hand.

"Well done, master Felmer. You have learned the art of the blade. You have passed the third trial."
