Chapter 16 - Things to do

Humans are terrifying creatures. They're one of the few creatures that can grow and improve. Not just that, but also at an alarming rate.

Their souls are like guides but only if the human knows its desired path. Then the soul will place walls in the shape of goals. After conquering them, a human becomes stronger and gains strange abilities.

They can even acquire a Soul name. A unique name given to the humans by their soul path.

This type of traits isn't common in many other creatures.

For example, take Elves that live Hundreds of years but even with that. It takes them even more years to find even the tiniest bit of improvement. Only few elves have managed to move their souls to improve and grow.

It is said that an Elf's soul is durable but not malleable. Probably, that's way they live so long but lack change.

Such a weakness of Elves could've even been their downfall and lead to an extinction. However, if they can't improve themselves in one way then they just have to use another.

So they focused on science. So now, they're far advance in technology than any other. It is like the si-fi comics type of tech. Steel would love to one day be in that world of science and look at all the gadgets and gizmos.

But that dream wouldn't be coming true as they despise demons. And to break his heart even more, elves have friendly relations with every other creature spices, including humans.

Some believe that Elves are also somewhat related to Humans to some degree. Like humans could be the evolution of elves, a soul that wants change far more than ever? That sort of sounds like the next step of a Elf.

With that some conspiracies came too. like Elves are the one who made humans inside of an lab or Humans are mutant clone soldiers made from elf DNA or Humans are just a failed experiment like how Mother's failed experiment are her Devil spawns.

These Conspiracies were growing and hurting the reputation of Elves. So in the end, elves took action and proven these theories and all the ridiculous conspiracies wrong with the help of science.

It even effected the relation between humans and elves. Making their interactions somewhat rare.

Fun fact, Demons don't have a life span. Nobody has seen a demon die of normal causes. So it is speculated by elven scientist that Demons are immortals.

Steel had read that in some article made by elves. It was an interesting info about demons. He was a demons so it made him happy that he is apparently immortal. But is he though? He doesn't wanna find out.

'wait a second. What am I even talking about?'

Steel had been trying to deduce the danger of humans. As he be plundering the human camp. But somehow, he started thinking about elves and their whole history.

He is really losing his mind cause of River's mind talks. He wants to use his lips to have a conversation again.

He can only drown in his sorrows and focus at the task at hand.

Currently, Steel had passed the human camp. He is approximately one and a half kilometer away from the camp.

Why did he passed the camp if he wanted to loot the camp? Well, his train of thoughts are simple. He can't carry River with him. She would make his elusive nature obsolete.

So it would be better to leave her somewhere hidden. But he didn't wanna leave her back there and then go back again to get her. That's too much stress for him. What if a human were to fall him at his way back? Anything can happen when humans are around.

If that were to happen he would have no other way but to fight the human. That situation, he just really wants to avoid.

So he crossed the camp first. That way if someone were to follow him after plundering the camp, he can just grab River and make a run for it to the direction he needed to go.

Basically, he didn't want to circle the whole camp while running from danger. His plan could be a flawed one but that's the best he can come up with.

[hmm…]

After being tortured by River's mind talk for so long. He has been able to identify signs that tells him that she wants to ask a question or have a conversation.

They are subtle but noticeable. He doesn't know if he should be proud or concerned for himself about this development. Is he getting used to it? If yes, why does he still gets migraines?

He sighs and asks what she wants.

[I understood your….weird plan. But I still don't know where would you be hiding me?]

A light smile creeps up on his face. Then he replies.

[I'm glad you asked.]

Steel would never say that he's a sadist person. He wasn't strong nor he has even tortured someone. But he still loves the idea of it.

So for few hours, Steel had ignored all the pain in his arms. The work was dirty and sweaty but he was sort of mischievous and excited about it. His desire to complete that task really helped him get through it.

River could only watch as Steel does his odd task. She failed to understand what could he achieve after displacing dirt form one location to another.

Soon her questions were answered.

[so you want to…bury me?]

Steel explained that digging a small size, few inches deep hole was to keep her hidden from the devil spawn. He also had thrown some dead leaves to make the whole dug up dirt disappear.

River understand his actions now. But she didn't understand why Steel was so smug about it? Is it hard digging hole in the ground? Is he just proud of this achievement?

River fails to understand her weird demon ride again.

Steel's now going towards the human camp with River still in his head. It seems her mind talk has no limit.

It is nice to have someone with you or in your head. He's been dreading visiting that camp for days now. Who knows what kind of dangers he would found in there. Humans are unpredictable and dangerous. Steel has to be careful and on his guard the entire time while he's plundering that place for supplies.

However, when he reached that place. He found no on.
