Steel was able to take the knife out of the Devil eye socket. Then with a jolt from the devil. He falls on the ground and quickly stands up.
The battle isn't over yet. It has actually gotten even more dangerous. Now that the devil is blinded it isn't stopping to make a highly calculated attack with its limb to kill him. Instead, it has just gone out of control and throwing its limb everywhere. Hitting and destroying whatever falls in its way.
Afterall, a cornered devil spawns will give up on self preservation and try to kill everything even if it cost them their life.
River is far away cause of the Devil's last hit. So she's safe from the devil's attacks for now.
Steel has also made a safe distance between himself and the devil. Now he just have to maintain that distance and watch the devil succumbing to its own injuries.
His only plan is waiting and watching his opponent so when the time is right he can strike to kill. It probably would take the whole night for this devi to give up though. It isn't the most quickest plan or even the more heroic or a desperate one, it is actually the most safest plan or maybe cowardly.
Steel doesn't mind being cowardly for his own life though. His past kills have also been just as cowardly too. So why not walk the same path that kept him alive from the beginning.
His only worry is being spotted by other devil spawns. But almost, all of them went to answer the call of that human. So there shouldn't be any left to be a bother.
Humans are also another problem. What if there are more of them? He hasn't seen any yet but his paranoia is still screaming to leave this devil and run. Even if humans find him here, they would just see him as a human too. Because of his elusive ability.
But then there is River. Her face would give out immediately that she is something troublesome.
'that wouldn't be good'
So even if he is reluctant to do this, he has to finish the devil slug sooner than he like to.
The devil itself is just as dangerous as before. Mindlessly attacking everything inside the forest. It is bleeding and very much hurting itself with all these explosive movement. But it isn't enough.
Steel curses and try to find a way to attack from the back. The devil's limb is flexible enough that it can reach far back just like at the front.
Devil slug throws its limbs with all its strength at an odd looking plant or tree and breaks it in half. The broken tree piece falls far away from the devil.
Steel even heard a inhuman sound from the plant. It really creeped him out so he kept his distance from those strange wooden abominations.
However, the devil's relentless destruction never stopped. It is getting slower but not enough for Steel to attack.
Probably an hour is pasted and Steel is sweating with paranoia. The Devil slugs attacks are still going strong but it is weaker than before.
'this is gonna hurt…'
Steel had maintain his distance and stayed on the back side of the devil. Watching it with all his focus and attention. He had given instructions to River to be observant about the surroundings at the start. It is not like she can see much but he can't do anything else.
Soon he takes a deep breathe, trying to calm himself down. Then as the devil slows down after another hit. He see this opportunity and sprints at the back of the devil.
Devil's inability to see and exhaustion makes it miss Steel's movement. Giving him a golden chance to hit the abomination at a place where it is already injured.
Steel plunges the mundane knife in the abomination making it screams in agony. It struggles and hits him with its limb again and again.
But he is also stubborn and petty as the devil. He wanted to take his revenge for stabbing him at their first met, also of the time when it made him force to fall into the fissure and when it throw him on the wall making him break a tooth in his mouth.
Honestly, It felt so good to finally make it even. He pushes the knife even deeper and deeper making it scream more.
The devil didn't stop either. Doing everything with its tired body to crush that fly on its back but all its struggling did nothing.
Steel wasn't leaving until the devil slug is dead and the Devil slug wouldn't die until Steel is torn apart.
So it is come to a single question. Who would give up first?
A loud bam occurs at the end of it all and it is all silent again. The Devil slug is laying on the ground, not moving. Beside the large body of the devil slug, Steel breathes heavily and looks at the dead devil.
"Ugly slug,.."
Then he laughs manically.
However that laughter becomes bitter curses later.
River is now placed in front of the abomination, out of all the dirt and stuff. She was hit by a quite heavy hit from the Devil. But surprisingly, it only bruised her a little. If that was Steel in her place. He would surely be dead.
However, River is not understanding the action of her ride, Steel. He is kicking the dead devil slug for some reason. The abomination is already dead so such an action is really strange.
She had ask him but he hadn't answered with anything and she can't hear what he is saying cause he hasn't given her the permission to use his ears. So unfortunate, she doesn't know what is happening.
So all she can do is watch through his eye and try to grasp the meaning of his action.
"…Why couldn't you have a damn soul weapon, you ugly slug. I'm in so much pain cause of you. It is all your fault that I struggled so much. You…"
He had cut the devil apart, checked multiple times but found no darkness for him to get a soul weapon from. He is disappointed, tired, and his whole day is ruined.
If he could, he want to kill the damn slug once more. But for now, All he can do is try to release his frustration.
"YOU UGLY SLUG…"
