Carrying River on the back isn't the hardest thing in the world. She is light as a feather. But she's like a rag doll or a corpse which means she has no control over her limbs and head.
If Steel were to encounter a Devil spawn he would be in trouble. What do you want him to do? Deal with the Devil spawn or hold the girl on his back so she won't fall down and break her neck?
It is already a pain to deal with everything else so he had come up with something interesting.
The River backpack.
How do you turn a petite girl into a backpack? Well, follow these simple instructions.
First step, tie her hands together with any kind of rope. If you don't a rope, use intestines of a useless devil slug or any other devil spawn. They're durable creatures, even their insides are like rubber or steel. Ask the one who killed a devil spawn with his own hands.
Second step, now put her arms around your neck. Those tied hands will keep her in place. You can even adjust the tightness of the arms around your neck for a more stable position.
Third step, now hold her legs around your waist and tie them together as well to complete your own River backpack.

Steel rolls his eyes and explains his genius innovation again but a Demon who doesn't think outside the box just fails to understand his brain. Such a shame, nobody respects great minds.

Few days have passed since he escaped the death zone. In these days, nothing much is happening except for survival.
All his thoughts are about how he would get enough food for the next day, clean water to drink, a safe place for him to rest, and not getting caught by these Devil spawns during the day. All in all, his life is much simple now.
Before it was the hell made by River's influence and now it is the Hell of the East world.
Other worlds are also named similarly like North world and West world. Except for the South, it is separated from the rest and is the most Secluded one. That place has its own rules. It is known as World of sin or Goldengale.
These days are at least simple. But it won't be for long. His mission is to deliver River into the Asia continent of the West world. So she can release her influence over there and unleash another flesh storm in the world.
A mission forced onto him by the Mother's curse. Her influence over the world still exists and it is scheming something. Unfortunately, he is caught up into this schemes from birth.
He just hates that Demon God so much.
There are probably other demons who despise being a slave of Mother like him. But he kind of doubt it. Even though he never met a demon, other than River, he can guess that they don't really care who's in control as long as they he get what they want.
Destroying perfection.
And he is stuck in this grand ambition. Forced to ruin the lives of millions.
It isn't like he cares about the death that his action of delivering River to another world filled with innocents would cause. He is not really a human, just a demon born from a human.
Is there some sad back story in there somewhere? Steel can't find it.
Only thing he desires it to live in peace. After so many years, he had bought himself a little apartment in a human community. Now he doesn't have to live on the streets. But what's the point of a house if he have to be a delivery guy of a living cataclysm.
His life would probably be even harder though if he didn't possess his strange elusive ability. Making it harder for humans to see that he's a demon.
"can't the Mother's curse also just forget about me? No? who am I even asking…"
Steel was tired of everything. He doesn't like saying it but this world really isn't fair at all.
Take humans for example. Unlike demons who are stuck to be at a specific power level, never meant to grow with natural order. It is said that demons can fall into imperfection but that means losing oneself.
Humans don't have to worry about that. Humans can grow stronger by following an elusive path set by their soul. Their imperfect souls can grow to be a perfect.
Maybe it should also taken into account that demons like River are overpowered as hell. But not Steel, he is just a tiny cog in this machine.
Perhaps he needs to change his life as well.
So what if demons can't grow stronger form the inside? He can grow from the outside. He can steal, consume, destroy to be stronger than before. There has to be some rare artefacts that could make someone powerful.
He really doesn't wanna die a pathetic. Then afterward, nobody would even remember him thanks to his elusive nature.
Everyone and everything would forget about him. Like he had never existed in this terrible world.
He wants to make somewhat of a mark on this world.
So the quickest way to gain power is perhaps by killing a devil spawn and finally getting a soul weapon for himself.
