Chapter 99 - Chapter 99 He picked up a glass of dwarven spirits

He picked up a glass of dwarven spirits, took a sip, then toasted the two Wolf School Witchers, chuckling as he said:

"Congratulations, Vesemir, and Leo."

"You're very lucky!"

"I'd estimate that I'm the person in all of Vizima who knows the most about these bandits."

"Tonight, you should be buying me drinks."

Guilliman first joked, then, seeing the surprised expressions on the two Wolf School Witchers' faces, he revealed most of what he knew about the Salamandra gang.

"Their gang is called the Salamandra, and I'm an old acquaintance of theirs."

"I've killed at least thirty or forty of their members, including two sorcerers."

"They're a truly evil gang, producing fisstech, kidnapping children, extorting commoners, assassinating wealthy merchants, and so on; their crimes are countless."

"However, because their headquarters are deeply hidden, their organization is secretive, and there are many Expert within the gang, many people don't know their true nature."

"But what's certain is that their headquarters should be around Vizima, and most of their members are here, so you haven't come to the wrong place."

...This was a good encounter. Although Vesemir still had some doubts about Guilliman's fabricated identity.

However, after he provided a lot of information about the Salamandra gang, their relationship immediately warmed, reaching at least a friendly level, preventing mutual suspicion.

After a hearty meal and drinks, the wealthy Guilliman certainly wouldn't let the two poor Witchers pay for him. Instead, he actively paid the bill and even covered their room fees.

But as they were parting, Guilliman suddenly seemed to remember something and said to his two colleagues, who were somewhat grateful for his warm hospitality:

"Oh, do you know Berengar?"

"He's a friend of mine."

"He was injured in a previous fight with the Salamandra gang."

"Tomorrow, I'll take you to see him."

"I'm quite busy tomorrow. I also have three Bear School Witchers and a squad of Stanlyg's warriors coming to help me hunt monsters and complete a contract."

"If you're free later, you can also come and help me with contracts."

"Don't worry, we're all Witchers; I won't shortchange you on the pay."

After saying this, Guilliman left with a capitalist-like smile, taking Blackbeard and his subordinates, and left the Hairy Bear Inn.

Only Vesemir and Leo, the two newly arrived Witchers, were left, looking at each other, still processing the explosive news they had just received.

After more than ten seconds, Leo, who was impulsive and disliked thinking deeply, looked at his mentor and asked with a worried and innocent expression:

"Teacher, who exactly is this Guilliman? Is everything he said true?"

"You, Lambert, and Eskel always say that Witchers often struggle to even afford food when they're out, and have to be very frugal."

"How come this Guilliman looks so rich and powerful, and he's even accompanied by such a beautiful young lady? This isn't what you told us!"

Vesemir was old, and his thinking speed was naturally slower than a young person's.

Times were changing too fast.

His thoughts were still stuck in the Witcher era decades ago, and his mind was now a jumbled mess, unable to make sense of it all.

However, hearing his apprentice's question, the old man still put on a stern mentor's expression, glared at his apprentice, and said:

"Have you forgotten that village before, where I took you to hunt drowners?"

"We fought in the water and on the shore for an entire afternoon, but the village chief only gave us eighty percent of the reward. After that money was used to repair my steel sword, we only had enough left for two days' worth of food."

"This is the true life of a Witcher."

"If we encounter some powerful monsters and need to drink potions, we sometimes even lose money."

"Don't be as extravagant with money as Geralt and the others in the future; they always end up unable to afford food and get kicked out of inns."

"You must have heard them tell many stories like that."

Facing the teacher who had taught him since childhood, Leo naturally dared not retort. Looking at Guilliman's departing figure, Leo mumbled:

"We don't have much travel money left, and we can't find any contracts right now."

"Should we go find that kind-hearted man tomorrow and ask him to arrange some work for us?"

"Oh my, if you count the injured Senior Berengar, and the three Bear School Witchers arriving tomorrow..."

"Won't there be a total of seven Witchers in Vizima?"

"Will we still be able to find work and support ourselves, Teacher Vesemir?"

Upon hearing this, Vesemir unconsciously felt a trace of worry.

To be honest, finding news of the bandits so quickly after arriving in Vizima was a pleasant surprise for him.

He had originally thought he would need to spend half a year or even a year, like searching for a needle in a haystack, to find any trace of those guys.

But the subsequent news he heard made the old man truly unable to react.

However, Vesemir was a pragmatic person; if he couldn't figure something out, he wouldn't dwell on it. He would focus on the task at hand.

He glared at his apprentice again and said:

"Don't think so much, you little rascal."

"Go to sleep quickly. You're so tired from traveling today, and we still have to find work tomorrow."

"Oh, and in a few days, once we confirm that those bandits are indeed the Salamandra, we'll need to write to Lambert and Eskel."

"They've only just set off and should arrive soon."

"That bald sorcerer who led them last time was indeed difficult to deal with. Perhaps we'll even need to ask Mr. Guilliman for help to get our things back."

"Hmm, I wonder if Triss is in the city right now. She's a friend of Geralt's. If the situation is urgent, perhaps we can ask her for some help."
