James quietly made his way into Julia's office. He paused, his heart skipping a beat as he took in her appearance. Her white shirt sleeves were rolled up, her hair—usually let down—was packed into a messy ponytail. Her fingers moved restlessly across her laptop keyboard, a hint of a smirk gracing her red lips.
"What?" Julia said, looking up at the man who stood somewhat dazed in front of her.
"Cough! Cough!" James cleared his throat, embarrassed. His face flushed slightly under her questioning stare. Get yourself together, he thought.
"Did you manage to find anything?" she asked, stretching out her hand to collect the file from him. How could Julia notice anything odd about her assistant's gaze? When it came to matters of love, she was as clueless as ever.
"Yes. I managed to find the caretaker's house, but he has moved. I asked around and found out his daughter had surgery. The amount was huge, but somehow he managed to cover the debts. So I checked his finances, and that's what I found."
"You think someone did him a favour, and that someone is connected to the graveyard issue?" Julia asked.
"Yes. Why would he quit his job and move to another city with his daughter when he has no debt issues? His coworkers never mentioned him finding a new job, and all this happened within the span of a day," James reasoned.
Julia gave him a bright, blinding smile. Placing her head on her hand, she stared at him, making him nervous.
"What?" he wondered. Why did his heart skip a beat whenever Julia smiled? That must be because she rarely smiles, he thought. That had to be the reason.
"Wow, that's a smart analysis," Julia said. "I have an idea who must have pitted me against his brother."
"You know the person?" James asked, trying not to let her praise affect him too much. He had suspected Lily, but something seemed missing—she had no idea about Tina Wang's funeral.
"Hm," Julia hummed in agreement as she stood up. "A recent friend of mine," she replied while putting on her coat. Her tone was playfully lazy, but the look in her eyes was sharp. "Michael Kings."
"Huh?" James felt even more confused. He watched Julia walk out. How the hell did she get involved with these two brothers? he grumbled internally.
He immediately followed behind her. "Where to now?" he asked as he drove the car out of the park.
"kings Hospital,we are going to set a brain right" Julia replied.
At the Kings Empire, Kelvin ran his fingers through his hair in frustration. Employees rushed up and down, trying to fix the problem.
"So you're telling me all the best technicians in this country can't fix this simple issue?" he snapped. Just that morning, all the computers had been infected with a virus. Even the ACs weren't working—everything started glitching. What he thought was a simple problem now seemed far more serious.
"Sir, it's a new kind of virus. We've never seen anything like it. We have one of the strongest security systems, but the virus still managed to get through," the head computer technician said. Despite the situation, he felt genuine admiration for whoever had created it.
"How many days until you create an antivirus?" Kelvin asked.
"Give us a few days. I'll manage to create something that will destroy this virus."
"Can you trace where the virus came from?" Kelvin asked.
"We've tried, but it seems to be taking—"
"Finn," Kelvin called out, cutting him off, irritated by the answer. "Put a reward out there for anyone who can create an antivirus." Whoever created the virus would take the bait, he thought. If only he knew the fish would not only take the bait but also get away with the worm.
A slap landed on Michael's face.
Before he could fully understand what was happening, he looked at the beautiful woman standing in front of him, her arms crossed, a smile still on her face as though she hadn't just slapped him.
"What was that for?" Michael asked, confused. He glanced around the corridor. The nurse quickly turned away from his gaze.
"That's for being your friend," Julia answered. "I didn't know being your friend came with such a huge disadvantage," she drawl lightly.
Michael broke out in a cold sweat. Goodness, when did she start smiling like this? And why was her smile so creepy? He felt spooked.
"Julia, I'm so sorry. I saw all my brother put you through, and I'm sorry all this happened just because you're close to me."
Julia rolled her eyes at his words and scoffed, giving him a dumb look that made him panic.
There's no way she knows, he thought.
"Hm," Julia nodded as though she heard his thoughts. "Setting me against your brother."
Michael swallowed hard. Fuck, he cursed internally. He hadn't expected her to find out.
"Lead the way to your office," Julia said.
