Chapter 23 - meeting the enemy.

Understood.

Nothing removed. Nothing cut. Nothing added to the plot.

Same scenes, same actions, sa

The name left her lips as a whisper.

A cold look settled automatically on her face.

Carolina noticed it instantly — the shift in her aura, the darkness in her eyes. Her gaze followed Julia's line of sight.

"Do you know them?" she asked.

Julia schooled her emotions immediately, giving Carolina a puzzled look. Carolina smiled and brushed it off.

"Nope. Just thought the look looked familiar."

Internally, Julia scoffed.

Now that Alex had hit it big, of course June would be found in every luxurious building.

Enjoy it while it lasts.

June stood in the middle of the girls who fawned endlessly over her, enjoying the attention and praises she was getting. She liked the way their tones dripped with envy. It made her forget her problems momentarily.

Seems like a spa was a good idea.

"Let me drop you home," one of the ladies offered, eager to please.

"Don't worry," June said proudly. "Alex said he would come pick me up."

"You're so lucky," one of them gushed. "How fortunate can one get to have a boyfriend like yours, June? Does he have a brother?"

They all chuckled.

"Wait… is that Carolina, the Rare Beauty heiress?" one of the girls paused, staring in shock.

The others immediately turned their attention.

"Oh my God, it really is her!"

"We must have hit a jackpot today!"

"June, we should go over and say hi. After all, you were in their class."

They all looked expectantly at her.

June gave a stiff smile.

She hadn't really interacted with them before — they were a class higher than her, born into money, socialites, while she relied on her boyfriend and her influencer status. But she didn't correct them.

Moreover, since Carolina was a socialite, she would give them face, right?

With that thought, she sauntered confidently toward them, her friends following behind.

"Hello, I'm June," she introduced herself, smiling as she stretched her hand forward for a handshake.

Julia glared at the outstretched hand.

Carolina noticed her friend's discomfort, so she naturally held back from being nice.

June's smile turned stiff. She smiled even wider to hide her embarrassment and slowly drew her hand back.

"Nice to meet you, June. My hands are full," Carolina said, raising the bag in her left hand.

June smiled, swallowing her embarrassment.

"Oh, it's nothing," she said, brushing it off.

For some reason, she felt uncomfortable under Julia's gaze.

Why is she hostile to me?

I'm sure I haven't offended her before… and I wouldn't forget a face as gorgeous as Julia's.

"My friends and I recognized you, so we came over to say hi," she said, her eyes glinting as she eyed Julia's bag in recognition.

"Oh, this must be the Kantel bag," she added proudly.

"One of its kind, designed by the one and only Choo-Min. I asked my fiancé to get one for me for my birthday."

"Awwn, June, you're so lucky," her friend quickly flattered her.

"I heard he only designed three, and they're worth millions of dollars."

Julia looked at her like she was a clown.

She had just picked the bag casually that morning without even knowing the brand.

This tiny thing is worth so much? Such a waste, she thought.

"When's your birthday?" Julia asked.

Her face brightened at the question, thinking Julia was finally paying attention to her.

"On the second of this month — in two days. My fiancé and I decided to hold it at the Kfunds Club."

Carolina's eyes flashed in surprise.

The place was a high-class clubhouse meant only for the rich and by the rich — the one percent of the one percent. Only those whose net worth and influence could shake the economy were permitted.

She was surprised that June had access.

Julia searched her memory for the club.

Her gaze deepened.

Seems like Alexander is slowly brewing his way into high society.

Impressive.

June reached into her bag, fishing out an invite.

Her thoughts stirred — having Carolina and Julia there would boost her influence.

Though she could sense Julia's hostility, she brushed it off.

When I get higher, I'll teach her a lesson.

After all, what can a pampered heiress do?

"If I'm free, I'll surely make it," Julia said.
