After bidding farewell to Bulma and the others, Ray Chu and Goku landed on a small island aboard the plane piloted by Mai.
On the island stood a little seaside house. As soon as the plane touched down, Goku dashed into the house. A moment later, after a loud series of crashes and bangs, Master Roshi and Goku walked back outside.
"Oh, you guys are here?" Master Roshi pushed up his sunglasses. "Just a warning—training with me is no easy feat."
"I'm not afraid! I'm definitely going to become stronger than Master Roshi!"
Ray Chu immediately held up a sign:『Me too!』
Master Roshi chuckled as his eyes glinted slyly. "Before I teach you martial arts, you must first bring me a cute girl!"
"What's a cute girl?" Goku asked blankly.
Ray Chu snapped his fingers. Mai shyly approached, throwing a wary glance at the lecherous old man. Seeing the elegant black-haired beauty, Master Roshi stared blankly, utterly enchanted.
After a long pause, Master Roshi coughed awkwardly. "Ahem, you did well. I'm very satisfied."
Ray Chu quickly wrote: [So, can we train with you now?]
"Alright, test passed. Starting tomorrow, I'll teach you both my Turtle School martial arts."
"Yes!" Goku jumped up excitedly, then suddenly turned and pointed at a distant black dot. "Hey, what's that?"
"Looks like a person."
As the black dot approached, they finally saw clearly—it was a small bald kid rowing a boat. Far from shore, the kid tossed away the paddle, jumped energetically… and landed headfirst in the sand.
After Goku pulled him out, the bald kid snapped to attention and saluted Master Roshi. "You must be Master Roshi-sama! My name is Krillin! I've traveled all the way from the far East. Please accept me as your student!"
Master Roshi kept up his dignified act. "You've come far, but I don't accept students easily. Go home."
"These books are my greeting gift." Krillin eagerly presented a stack of "wholesome" magazines, immediately winning Master Roshi's approval.
"Well…let me reconsider…"
Perhaps due to mutual understanding, Master Roshi quickly changed his tune and decided to accept all three as disciples.
"Hmm. First assignment—go buy groceries. We'll need provisions for the upcoming training."
Master Roshi sent Goku on the errand, and Krillin volunteered to tag along. Shortly after leaving, they returned—but this time, accompanied by a blue-haired girl named Launch.
"She was being chased by bad guys, so we brought her back," Krillin explained.
Master Roshi kept a straight face behind his sunglasses, inwardly imagining himself surrounded by cute girls. "Well, martial artists must help those in need. You did the right thing."
"Nice to meet you, I'm Launch. Thank you very much for saving me, Master Roshi-sama, and your two grandsons." Launch bowed politely and demurely.
Master Roshi quickly adjusted his shades. "They're not my grandsons—they're my brothers!"
"Huh?"
"Oh, I mean students."
"If it's not a bother, I'd like to stay here for a while."
"No trouble at all! Stay as long as you want—forever even!" Despite already having Mai around, Master Roshi believed one could never have too many cute girls.
At this point, Master Roshi had no clue about Launch's peculiar condition.
...
The next morning before dawn, loud gunshots jolted everyone awake. Rushing out, they found Mai curled up in a corner trembling, while Launch—now blonde, utterly different from the sweet girl yesterday—wildly fired a submachine gun at Master Roshi.
"Die, perverted old man!" Blonde Launch shouted angrily as bullets chased the terrified Master Roshi around.
Although unharmed, Master Roshi looked utterly miserable under the hail of gunfire. Seeing everyone arrive, he hurriedly explained, "I just went to wake up the two girls!"
"You mean harass them!" Krillin retorted dryly.
Except Goku, no one believed his excuses. The immediate question was why sweet, gentle Launch had suddenly become so violently hostile.
Just then, Blonde Launch sneezed, instantly reverting to her gentle, blue-haired self. Noticing the terrified Master Roshi, she gasped, quickly putting away her gun. "Oh dear, I'm so sorry! Whenever I sneeze, I transform like that. Are you hurt?"
Master Roshi nearly wept. He desperately wanted a refund. With Launch around, never mind two girls—he wouldn't even have a chance with one!
The morning's chaos was quickly set aside. Aside from Master Roshi sulking a bit, everyone else felt eager and nervous—today was finally the day Master Roshi had promised to start their martial arts training.
"You all have some martial arts foundation already. Let's do a quick test first." Master Roshi led the trio to an open space near the seaside town. Pointing at a large tree, he explained, "Exactly one hundred meters from this stone to that tree. Let's see how quickly you can run it."
Krillin warmed up confidently. "Hehe, I'll go first! Check out these world-class legs!"
Krillin took a standard sprint stance, and at Master Roshi's signal, dashed forward, completing the run in 10.4 seconds.
"Very impressive," Master Roshi praised. "Next, Goku."
Compared to Krillin, Goku moved even faster, zipping by like wind and finishing in just 8.5 seconds, stunning Krillin.
"How… how did you train?"
"Haha! Ray Chu's even faster than me! Wonder how fast he'll run?" Goku replied eagerly.
"Oh? Even faster than Goku, huh?" Master Roshi's eyes brightened, signaling Ray Chu to get ready.
Having undergone specialized training, The hundred-meter dash was nothing new to him. He got into an even more professional stance than Goku and exploded forward, instantly crossing the distance.
"Oh, 8.1 seconds. Indeed faster than Goku," Master Roshi remarked, checking his stopwatch nonchalantly.
"Pika!" Ray Chu suddenly called out, expressing himself proudly.
"You wanna run again? Ambition's great, but don't expect huge improvements so soon."
But Krillin and Goku also insisted on another try, clearly unsatisfied with their initial results.
"Well, alright. Competitiveness isn't necessarily a bad thing."
Krillin went first again. Perhaps inspired by his rivals, this time he managed 9.6 seconds, faster than his previous 10 seconds flat.
"Hmm, pretty good," Master Roshi approved.
Goku went next, carefully imitating Krillin's earlier perfect sprinting posture. The instant the whistle blew, he blasted off like a gust of wind.
"7.9 seconds! Today's youngsters really are something." Master Roshi marveled.
This time was even better than Ray Chu's previous 8.1 seconds. Even Master Roshi couldn't help admiring Goku—clearly, Gohan had built him an exceptional foundation.
