Black Crest Jubilife Breeding House
The small boost in visibility from the task reward [I Really Didn't Want to Be a Content Creator] was already starting to show results.
Aside from Lily and Nami, Dad and Mum had taken on four orders just this morning.
Three of them were boarding requests that included teaching new moves, and one even involved cultivating all the way to evolution.
All three were big orders—exactly the kind that could quickly raise the reputation of the Breeding House.
"Then we'll head out first."
After lunch, Lily took Nami with her and left.
Amanda waved them off with a smile.
"Drive safe!"
After lunch, Ryu and the other Pokémon scattered off to play.
Earlier that morning, Austin had run a speed test on Ryu.
After using the Speed Enhancer (Potent Version), Ryu's speed saw a clear jump—so much so that even his Extreme Speed looked sharper and more explosive than before.
Meanwhile, Metang had finished consuming the Metal Coat.
Austin estimated that once it fully digested the energy, it would naturally evolve into Metagross.
Austin didn't go to see Lily and the others off. Instead, he stayed behind, editing his second video while simultaneously refining upcoming breeding plans.
One of the four orders had already been completed.
It was a customization request for a Butterfree that would be participating in the Jubilife Contest tomorrow. The client wanted it to look more elegant and eye-catching.
For Austin, this kind of request was straightforward.
After asking about Butterfree's preferences, he directly prepared a serving of Kelpsy Berry Energy Cubes designed to raise beauty.
The client left fully satisfied, and Austin received his first-ever positive review from a stranger.
The task progress ticked up to (6/100).
What remained were three cases:
A Feebas that needed to evolve
A Cubone that needed to learn Dig
A Crobat that needed to learn Aerial Ace
Dad handled the move-teaching.
Austin took full responsibility for Feebas's evolution.
He titled the edited dual-angle teaching video:
Trainer Guide: Pokémon Grooming & Presentation
"In this video, we're using Glameow and Delcatty as examples," Austin said in the narration,
"but most of the principles apply across the board with Pokémon with fur."
He sprinkled explanations throughout, keeping the tone relaxed and practical.
"And if it really doesn't work out," he added near the end,
"It's always fine to take your Pokémon to a Breeding House and let professionals handle it. Black Crest Jubilife Breeding House welcomes you anytime."
With that, he cheerfully tacked on a small advertisement and wrapped things up.
As the video entered review on PokéStream, Austin switched back to his desktop and created a new folder:
Feebas Breeding Plan.
Feebas has two evolution paths:
Trading while holding a Prism Scale
Evolving once its beauty reaches a certain threshold
The client had specifically requested the beauty-based evolution.
That meant sustained feeding with beauty-enhancing food—or gradual infusion using a Prism Scale.
This process would likely become Austin's third breeding video.
Once evolved, Feebas would turn into Milotic, widely regarded as one of the most beautiful Pokémon in existence, if not the most beautiful.
Austin had… mixed feelings about that claim.
After all, Gardevoir and Diancie might strongly disagree.
The Feebas in question had a serious issue: it was extremely timid and deeply insecure.
That morning, when Austin merely glanced in its direction, Feebas immediately darted into the rockery at the edge of the pond.
Austin had already instructed Ryu, Agni, and the others not to approach it for now, giving it space to adjust.
He was almost certain the Feebas had suffered psychological trauma—and it most likely came from humans.
Simply raising its beauty wasn't enough.
He also needed to help it rebuild confidence.
Otherwise, evolution would be impossible.
For now, Austin treated the Feebas like a priceless piece of porcelain—handling everything with extreme care.
While Austin was still researching ways to help Feebas recover emotionally, recruitment was already underway.
. . .
Knock knock.
The office door was tapped lightly.
"Please, come in."
"Hello, everyone. I'm Mizuki Hano. I'm here for the interview."
Mizuki had neat, warm-brown short hair, a fitted trench coat, and shorts—clearly prioritizing style over warmth.
The moment she introduced herself, both Leon and Amanda recognized the name.
She had submitted her résumé in advance.
Amanda placed the printed copy neatly to one side.
"Please give us a brief self-introduction," Amanda said calmly,
"and then explain why you left your previous Breeding House."
They already knew the outline of her situation—but they wanted to hear her explanation directly.
"Austin Black—your son—and I were in the same cohort during the Intermediate Breeder exam," Mizuki said evenly.
"I passed both rounds with total second highest score."
"Based on your Intermediate Breeder Assessment scores, I'd assume you've had prior experience at a Breeding House," Leon said from behind his desk.
"Yes, that is a correct assumption."
"As for why I left… It's simple."
"Workplace harassment," she continued, her tone steady.
"Along with a lot of unregulated—and frankly illegal—practices."
"Indiscriminate medication, misuse of low-quality Berries, forced breeding without regard for a Pokémon's physical condition…"
Her words landed heavily in the room.
Mizuki calmly listed the wrongdoings of her previous Breeding House, one by one.
They were, without question, illegal.
"I believe you both understand that Pokémon can't be bred continuously," she said evenly. "They're not machines."
"Under normal circumstances, two litters a year is already the limit. Five to six years of breeding is about as far as you should go if you want to protect the physique and quality of the next generation."
"Once you push past that," she continued, "you start seeing offspring that are either physically weak or have extremely poor aptitude."
Amanda Black nodded in agreement.
"You're absolutely right."
Situations like that existed for one simple reason—they drastically cut costs.
The Pokémon world was generally bright and orderly, but there were always people willing to gamble with morality for profit.
Mizuki then went on to vividly describe how she had secretly gathered evidence and submitted an anonymous report against the Breeding House.
My dear … this is a job interview. You're really telling us about anonymously reporting your former workplace.
Amanda was momentarily at a loss for words.
This doesn't sound like breeding experience at all—it sounds like undercover intelligence work.
Leon's thoughts drifted further and further off track.
Any other Breeding House, hearing how ruthless Mizuki could be, would probably hesitate to hire her.
After all, who knew when she might pull out a little notebook and report them next?
But Leon and Amanda needed someone exactly like this—competent, genuinely caring toward Pokémon, and with a strong sense of responsibility.
The old man in the family used to repeat a single sentence over and over:
"If you share in this bowl, you share in responsibility—and never in harm."
The Black family had taken those words to heart.
That was also the original intention behind opening the Black Crest Jubilife Breeding House.
Amanda stood up and sincerely extended her hand toward Mizuki.
"Welcome to Black Crest Jubilife Breeding House," she said warmly. "I hope we can work together to build the kind of Breeding House we both believe in."
Mizuki quickly reached out and shook her hand.
"I believe we will," she replied. "I did thorough research before submitting my résumé—and honestly, your son was proof enough."
Leon immediately puffed out his chest, taking full credit.
"That's because my son takes after me!"
Amanda shot him a look, while Mizuki smiled politely.
The two briefly introduced Mizuki to the Breeding House's environment and accommodation arrangements.
Aside from the main residence where Austin Black and his family lived, the base also had a dedicated staff dormitory.
"I'll head back to pack my things," Mizuki said. "I'll come in and start work tomorrow."
She had barely left when the next applicant entered.
A tall, broad-shouldered man ducked through the doorway—and still managed to bump his head on the doorframe.
Leon blurted out instinctively,
"A human Machamp?!"
Amanda rolled her eyes, far too tired to complain.
"Ah—no," she said politely. "We're not hiring bodyguards."
The man—Dai Yui—smiled faintly.
"No," he replied calmly. "I'm here to apply for a Breeder position."
