"Well, they're part of the palace grounds," Wish said earnestly. "And as His Radiance's attendant, I should be aware of all aspects of his environment. What if the fish are sick? That could affect the water quality, which could affect his health—"
"The fish are fine," Nyla snapped. She closed her eyes, clearly counting to ten internally. When she opened them again, she looked at Aurex. "Your Radiance, perhaps we should reschedule this session for a time when there are fewer... distractions."
"Or," Wish interjected, "I could just keep standing here quietly. I promise I won't say another word." She mimed zipping her lips.
Nyla stared at her.
Wish stared back innocently.
Aurex looked between them, his grin widening. He was clearly having the time of his life.
But then Wish's eyes landed on the bottle of Voidstar Wine sitting on the table, still half-full. An idea sparked in her mind—reckless, stupid, but it would definitely make her point.
