Wish thought that if she ever got a second chance at life, she would at least wake up in a better story.

Anything would have been fine. That's how stories were supposed to work.
Instead, fate—and whatever twisted cosmic editor writes destinies—casts her in the one role she should never have been reborn into: the fat, ugly, unwanted maiden chosen for sacrifice.

"Your tail keeps getting fluffier," Hyrin murmured, his breath hot against her ear. "What does that mean, I wonder? Fear?" His lips curved dangerously close to her skin. "Or something else? Like sexual tension maybe?"


"FINE!" The word ripped from Wish's throat, somewhere between a shout and a sob. Her fists clenched against his chest.


"FINE! I take it back! You're not average! You're—you're—" Her nails dug into her palms. She couldn't believe these words were about to leave her mouth. "—you're HUGE, okay?! MASSIVE! A MONUMENT TO MASCULINITY! ARE YOU HAPPY NOW?!"


Hyrin pulled back, and the grin that spread across his face was absolutely triumphant.


Water dripped from his silver-streaked hair onto her burning cheeks. "Very." He rolled his hips down deliberately, confirming her admission with his body. "See? Honesty. Was that so hard?"


Wish's mouth opened and closed. Her face felt like it might actually catch fire. "You're—you're—"
