Chapter 18 - The Cave (1)

[Quest: Bohemian Rhapsody

Kill - Completed

Acceptance - Completed]

Taro stared at the completed mission, blood still on his sword and cheeks. The headless body oozed out blood, turning the yellow sand red.

Taro's eyes flickered; his stomach was turning as he fought the urge to puke. However, a single slap on the back from Nao quickly eased his nerves.

Nao playfully yelled, "We all had to do it, so snap out of it!"

Looking at the young yet energetic boy in front of him, Taro's nerves eased, causing him to chuckle, "I'm fine. I just need some water."

Kise threw a gourd. "Here, some water."

Taro drank the water but quickly spat it out, "Why is it so hot?!"

Mashiro shuffled Taro's hair, "We're in the desert…" He paused and looked at his son with pride in his eyes. "Great job. But now's not the time to rest. The more we linger around here, the more the bandits will get away."

Taro nodded and went into his tent. As he got ready, he opened the system and looked at the rewards he got from the sudden quest.

[System Rewards:

3 Bronze Cards

2 Silver Cards.]

He opened the three bronze cards simultaneously and got nothing but garbage. The first card was 50 thousand sheets of paper. Then the second card was a cologne. Finally the third was a singular deodorant.

"Fuckass system, are you trying to say I stink?!"

Of the two silver cards, only one was useful to Taro. The first card was called the Everything Key. It can open anything that uses a standard locking system. Although it could be useful in certain situations, right now, what Taro wanted was power.

The second card, however, was something he knew and wanted to learn.

[Silver Card: Shadow Clone Jutsu

Description: This jutsu allows the user to create one or more copies of themselves. The user's chakra is evenly divided between themselves and their clones: creating one clone will give it half the user's chakra, creating two clones will give each a third of the user's chakra, and so on. Depending on how much chakra the user has and how many clones they make, this rapid depletion of their reserves can be dangerous.]

Taro's eyes gleamed, "Yes! But how the hell is this only silver?!"

[Bomboclat! I'm the greatest there is, why WOULDN'T this be a silver?]

Taro chuckled quietly, but then the chuckle turned into laughter. The adrenaline and doubt from earlier were now fully gone.

He took everything he needed for the journey and left the tent with a smile.

When he got out, Nao placed his arm around Taro's neck and asked, "What was that about, Taro? You hiding porn stash like Big Bro?"

Taro's face flushed, "No, why the hell would you ask me that?" Suddenly realizing the last sentence, Taro asked loudly, "Kise has hidden porn stash?!"

Mashiro, hearing the two, raised an eyebrow at Kise, who was next to him.

Kise turned around and threw something at Nao, "Shut the fuck up, Nao! Get your ass ready, we're traveling non-stop!"

Nao giggled and whispered in Taro's ear, "He read those naughty books all day, he call it his golden treasure. I'm pretty sure it's called something like Different Ways to Make—"

Before he could finish, a sharp yell from Kise stopped him, causing him to sweat and run toward him.

"So… he really is Kakashi 2.0…" murmured Taro.

-------------------------

Five hours later.

After five hours of non-stop running, the quartet stopped in front of a fortified cave. The fortification looked shabby, as if it was made in minutes. In front of the gates stood a skinny, dirty, and greasy bandit.

He held a spear and was wearing standard Land of Wind armor. Although he had armor, it was falling apart, and his spear was nearly fully dull.

After a few seconds of watching, a nearby bush suddenly rustled and a tall man walked out. The man was bald and was wearing the same armor and had a massive sword strapped onto his back.

"That shit was massive," the tall man informed.

The skinny man snorted, "I know it wasn't as big as mine… My shit from last night was at least 7 inches long and 3 inches wide!"

The tall man's eyes widened, "No way, man!" He smiled, "You know what that means, right? You can take a size that big up your ass!"

The two men laughed, causing Mashiro and the others to twitch their brows.

Sighing, Mashiro gave out the plan, "There's no plan."

Taro turned around, "What?! How are we supposed to kill all these damn bandits?!"

Mashiro shrugged, "I don't know, figure it out. Me and Kise will just be bystanders."

Taro was about to argue, but Nao quickly stopped him, "Enough with all that. Focus on the mission."

Mashiro and Kise smiled, then in a blink of an eye, they disappeared.

Nao's demeanor turned serious, "From what Father said earlier, there's at least ten bandits in this group. What's more, they're mostly nocturnal, meaning they're most likely asleep right now. They do their raids during the night, same for running away."

Taro nodded, "I say let's scout the area first, before we get rid of the two here."

Nao agreed, "Alright, but as you scout, place traps everywhere. That entrance is our only entrance and exit. And from the looks of it, it should be the same for them too. If we were to get pushed back, we can run toward the rock formations where we set up traps."

"Got it."

With everything figured out, the two disappeared and ran toward their own direction.

On the top of a hill, Kise and Mashiro watched them from afar.

"Are you sure we shouldn't help? I sensed at least three of the bandits had their chakra pathway opened, so they're most likely shinobis," questioned Kise.

Mashiro scoffed, "Nao is experienced in combat, I expect a lot from him in this mission. After all… when it comes to battle, he's one of the smartest."

Kise nodded, "What about Taro?"

"He's still weak, but he has the potential." Mashiro paused and stared at Kise, "Even more than you."

Kise smiled, "I'm glad. I can't wait to see the day he surpasses me."
