Kakashi, who had been focused on the encirclement, froze for a split second.
Then he snapped into motion, yanking out the short blade on his back and lunging forward.
"Go to hell!!"
At the same time, the chicken-nest leader roared and rushed in, furious that his teammate's sneak attack had failed.
"Kakashi! Five minutes!!"
Yagami shouted over the chaos.
He had missed the perfect moment to decapitate the chicken-nest because of the ambusher.
Now he needed Tekuno's trap—
He needed time.
"Understood!"
Kakashi engaged the big man instantly.
One against many—but orders were orders.
"Go together!!"
The surrounding Iwa ninjas, hearing their exchange, assumed backup was on the way.
So they charged in a wave, trying to crush the duo quickly.
The battlefield exploded into chaos.
Ding-ding-dang-dang!!
Steel clashed endlessly.
The fight spilled from the shoreline onto the lake's surface as chakra stabilized their footing.
Kakashi's arms and back were already bleeding from constant slashes.
He gritted his teeth, refusing to fall.
"Captain!!"
Kakashi shouted abruptly.
"That guy from before—he's gone!!"
Yagami didn't have time to respond.
He too was surrounded, though his blade carved arcs that kept all attackers at bay.
With bullet time augmenting him, he was untouchable—
But he still couldn't break free long enough to protect Kakashi.
Meanwhile, the chicken-nest leader cackled.
"Ahahahahaha!"
"Be careful! My captain's camouflage stealth can merge into the surroundings perfectly!"
"He'll strike unseen!"
His voice was wild with excitement—not anger.
This idiot thought he'd stumbled upon a treasure.
He couldn't wait for his invisible captain to finish off Kakashi so they could both tear Yagami apart.
Yagami felt a spike of real anxiety.
If he were alone, he could have ended all of them already.
But the mission required leading the team out alive.
He regretted not leaving Kakashi with Tekuno.
Clang clang clang clang!!
While fending off multiple attackers, he kept his senses stretched outward, searching for the hidden threat—
Then he saw it.
Behind Kakashi—
On the lake—
Approaching—
A single watery footprint rippled into existence.
"KAKASHI!!!"
Without hesitation, Yagami let a kunai slash across his arm—
The fastest way to free himself from the encirclement.
He swept his blade in a wide, brutal arc, blasting all enemies away from him in an instant.
"Flying Sword!"
He twisted his torso, swung—
And unleashed a crescent slash that tore across the lake.

Water split open, leaving a deep scar in its wake.
"Captain Dashi!!"
The chicken-nest leader screamed too late.
Psssh!!
A spray of blood erupted behind Kakashi—
From nowhere.
"UAAAAAAAHHH!!"
An arm—still holding a kunai—fell out of thin air, splashing into the lake.
The invisible attacker was forced out of camouflage by the injury.
He stumbled into view, clutching the bleeding stump.
At that moment—
BOOM!!
Yagami kicked off the water surface, rocketing toward the wounded man.
This enemy was the biggest threat.
He needed to die now.
"STOP HIM!!"
The chicken-nest leader shrieked.
All Iwa shinobi reacted at once, weapons slicing through the air toward Yagami—
But his blade was already raised, his eyes cold and locked onto the panicked, injured captain.
