Chapter 16 - Why should I be jealous?

Lilith's gaze on him grew even more doting, and she softly said, "Good. Since you've decided that, I won't stop you. However, getting you to walk normally within the next two days is doable, but moving as flexibly as before is impossible."

"While you're taking part in the 'Newbie Challenge', having trouble moving will put you in a lot of danger. Do you still want to participate?"

Negut nodded and said, "Of course. I'm a Summoner anyway, I don't need to move that much."

In truth, he did not take Lilith's words too seriously. After all, this was only the 'Newbie Challenge'. Inside that space there would be Professors and Government Staff observing and supporting them.

If the Newbies were in danger, they would immediately step in to help, or in the worst case, pull the person in danger out of the challenge space.

Because of that, Negut was not worried at all, and felt that the 'Newbie Challenge' would be nothing more than a casual stroll in a zoo.

Besides, he had two Divine Blessings from God. He really wanted to see just how strong high rank Slimes would be, or whether they had any special traits.

Lilith nodded, her hand gripping his face and shaking it as if she were teasing a little puppy.

"You really know how to make people worry," Lilith said with a laugh. "But if you want me to agree, you have to make me satisfied."

"Heh!? This… I still need your permission for that?" Negut frowned and asked.

Lilith's expression turned cold, her voice full of command. "You're my man now, of course you have to listen to what I say. If you don't listen… hahahaha…"

She did not finish her sentence, but her hand was already sliding down to his throat, her index finger pressing against his Adam's apple.

She did not use any strength, but the way her nail pressed there still scared him, as if in the very next second she might pierce straight through his neck.

"Ack! Um… Lilith, what… what do I have to do to make you satisfied?" Negut asked in fear.

"Huh!" Lilith snorted in disdain. "Don't think I don't know anything. Just now, you actually dared to tell Nedaric that as long as he paid ten times the amount I gave you, you'd go with him, isn't that right?"

Negut took a deep breath, feeling a chill crawl up his spine as if he were standing inside an ice cellar.

"You're really brave. Hahahaha… Negut, did you forget what I said?"

Negut shuddered and hurriedly said, "Lilith, listen to my explanation. At that time… I… I was just messing with him a little, that's all."

"Oh? Really?" Lilith smiled, and that smile was so cold it made Negut tremble in fear.

"Really, really. You know what I'm like, right? How could I possibly go with a sissy like that? Here, I've got a rich beauty. I'm not stupid enough to dump you and follow that bastard."

Lilith frowned slightly, then slowly released Negut, smiling as she said, "Very reasonable."

Negut let out a long sigh of relief. However, before he could calm down, Lilith spoke again.

"If you perform well tonight, I'll help you take part in the 'Newbie Challenge'. If not, I'll lock you in the basement forever," Lilith said, the blood red in her eyes flashing with frenzied madness.

Negut shuddered and nodded like a bobblehead doll.

Lilith waved at him, then left the room. Even though he was now alone, his heart was still pounding wildly, as if it was about to burst out of his chest.

"Terrifying… truly terrifying. That woman is a demon," Negut muttered.

Even now, he still could not figure out why such a terrifying yet unbelievably beautiful woman like Lilith had chosen him. Was it because he was handsome?

No, that wasn't right. In terms of looks, he could not compare to Nedaric at all. Most likely Nedaric's older brother was also extremely handsome.

He did not have any real assets either. No, to be precise, he only had two empty hands.

He was still a cripple, useless.

Aside from the two Divine Blessings from God, he had nothing of value for Lilith to take advantage of.

'Could it be… she knows I have two Divine Blessings from God?' Negut thought to himself. But he immediately shook his head, rejecting that idea.

Even the System developed by the Government couldn't detect those two Divine Blessings, so how could she possibly discover them?

Fine, even if he kept thinking about it, he would not figure anything out, so he might as well just sleep.

Negut lay back on the sofa and slowly drifted off to sleep.

Somewhere else.

Nedaric sat in the car, furiously slamming his fist against the steering wheel.

BAM!

"Damn it! What the hell does that cripple have that's better than me? Why is Lilith siding with him? Why is she so close to him?"

"And also… damn it! Why is my sister here too? Isn't she supposed to be in the Government's research lab?"

Nedaric muttered angrily, but then he suddenly saw a familiar figure and his eyes lit up.

He hurriedly got out of the car, ran up to Welhime and said with a smile, "Big sis, hehehe… when did you come back? Why didn't you tell me and our parents in advance?"

Welhime glanced at Nedaric, and the cold, emotionless look in her eyes made him shudder.

Nedaric knew very well what kind of person his sister was. She was only interested in science and had no interest in anything else.

Even though the family had arranged for her to meet many men, she refused them all.

Their parents were worried about her and wanted her to get married, but because her status was too special, they did not dare to push her too hard.

Welhime said nothing and was about to leave, but Nedaric clung to her like a leech, blocking her path.

"Big sis, what… what are you doing here?" Nedaric asked quickly.

Welhime glanced at Nedaric and said indifferently, "There is a matter that requires cooperation with Lilith."

"Ah!" Nedaric nodded, as if he understood. A thought flashed through his mind and he smiled. "Big sis, just now you saw me being pushed over by Negut too, so why didn't you stand up for me? Do you know how upset I am?"

Welhime looked at Nedaric, her gaze growing even colder, her voice carrying a hint of killing intent. "Nedaric, put away your petty little tricks. I'm not stupid, Lilith is not stupid, the only idiot here is you."

"Because you're my younger brother, I'll give you one piece of advice. Don't mess with Negut, or the consequences will be very terrible."

With that, Welhime ignored the ugly expression on Nedaric's face, which looked as if he had just eaten shit, and walked away.

Nedaric ground his teeth and muttered angrily, "Damn it! Not only Lilith, even my sister is siding with that cripple."

"Ah! Hahaha…" Nedaric suddenly seemed to remember something and let out a cold laugh. "Negut, Lilith can protect you now, but she can't protect you for life. Once you enter the 'Newbie Challenge', how is a cripple like you going to survive in there?"

He took out his phone, dialed a number, and a cruel smile appeared on his face.

Negut did not know how long he had been asleep when he suddenly felt as if someone was watching him.

He frowned and slowly opened his eyes, only to see a pair of eyes full of curiosity staring straight at him, along with a seductive scent that made him feel a little dazed.

But when he saw that familiar purple hair and medical mask, he spoke in a weary voice, "Naomi? Why are you staring at me like that?"

Her eyes curved like crescents, as if something had put her in a very good mood. "Just watching you sleep."

"Hm?!" Negut looked at Naomi in confusion.

"Because when you sleep, you look really cute, just like a little puppy," Naomi said with a laugh.

Negut: "…"

He fell completely silent. "Cute" was hardly a fitting word to describe a man, was it?

Lilith was stronger than him. If she said he was cute, he could accept it. But now even Naomi was saying the same thing, and that was a bit much for him to swallow.

Facing Naomi's gaze, he felt a little awkward and quickly tried to change the subject. "Where's Lilith? How long have I been asleep?"

"Lilith?" At that moment, a hint of wicked amusement flashed in Naomi's eyes. She laughed and said, "You don't know? She went to see the man she loves."

Negut was slightly surprised, but then his expression calmed down again, and he said softly, "Is that so?"

Naomi seemed very surprised by Rover's expression and quickly asked, "You're not jealous?"

Negut looked at Naomi in confusion and frowned. "Why should I be jealous?"
