Liana drags an armored crate toward us, her voice cutting through the tension. "Arlene comes across as pretty demanding."
I shake my head, considering her words carefully. "She has standards, sure. Arlene appreciates quality and honesty above all else. But she brings joy to everything around her. Even when stress threatens to crush her or illness weighs her down, she never lashes out at others. Getting her truly angry requires pushing her past every reasonable limit.
"The children adore her for good reason. Kids notice everything adults try to hide, and they understand far more than we want to acknowledge. That reality doesn't shake her composure. She navigates problems with intelligence rather than brute force. Violence remains an option in her arsenal, but never her first choice.
