Alice's POV
Bryan and I were put in a private wing on the top floor where they said it would be easier to protect us from Catherine or any of Marcus's remaining children.
I couldn't sleep that first night even though the doctors had given me sedatives. Every sound made me jump, every shadow looked like someone coming to kill me, and my hand kept going to my stomach where the baby was still somehow hanging on despite everything.
Bryan was in the bed next to mine, also awake, staring at the ceiling with the same haunted look I probably had.
"We can't keep living like this," he said quietly into the darkness. "Running from one threat to another, never knowing who to trust."
"What choice do we have?" I asked.
"We fight back," Bryan said, turning his head to look at me. "We stop being victims and start being hunters, we find my mother before she finds us, we expose every single one of Marcus's children, and we end this once and for all."
