Alice's POV
I woke up in a different room, smaller than before, and as if on instinct my hand immediately went to my stomach and I felt bandages there, surgical dressings that made panic rise in my throat.
"The baby's okay," Victoria said from the chair next to my bed, looking exhausted but alert. "They did an emergency procedure to stop the bleeding but the baby's still there, still fighting."
Relief flooded through me so hard I started crying. "Bryan?"
"Recovery room down the hall," Victoria said. "They had to repair internal damage from the explosion but he's stable, he'll be moved here in a few hours."
I wiped my eyes and tried to sit up, wincing at the pain. "What happened with Marcus? With Daniel?"
"Marcus is dead," Victoria said flatly. "Daniel shot him point blank in the chest, he died before the paramedics even arrived, and Daniel's in custody confessing to everything."
"Everything?" I repeated.
