Bryan's POV
I drove to the hospital faster than I should have. My hands gripped the steering wheel so tight my knuckles turned white.
My father was having a heart attack. The words kept repeating in my head, but they didn't feel real.
Richard Hale didn't have heart attacks. He was invincible, unbreakable, the man who built an empire from nothing. He couldn't be lying in a hospital bed fighting for his life, but he was.
I pulled into the hospital parking lot and practically ran inside. The receptionist directed me to the cardiac unit on the fourth floor. I took the stairs because waiting for the elevator felt impossible.
When I got to his room, Antonio was already there. He stood outside the door, talking to a doctor.
"How is he?" I asked, out of breath.
The doctor turned to me. She was young, maybe in her thirties, with kind eyes. "Are you family?"
"I'm his son," I said. "Bryan Hale."
