Alice's POV
I hung up on Bryan and stared at my phone for a long time. My hands weren't shaking anymore. I felt calm, which was strange considering what I'd just done.
I'd finally told him the truth. That I couldn't keep doing this. And it felt like breathing after being underwater for too long.
I got up from the couch and went to the kitchen. The dinner I'd made was still in the fridge, untouched. I pulled it out and threw it in the trash. All of it. The pasta, the salad, the dessert I'd spent an hour making.
I wasn't going to be that woman anymore. The one who waited around making dinners that nobody ate. The one who kept hoping things would change.
I'd been that woman with Daniel and look where it got me. Betrayed and divorced.
I wouldn't make the same mistake twice.
My phone rang. Bryan calling back. I declined it and turned off my phone completely.
