Alice's POV
"Did he just take our picture?" I asked as soon as I saw what just happened.
Antonio's jaw tightened. "Looks like it."
"Why would someone take our picture?" I asked. My heart racing.
"Because you're Bryan Hale's wife," Antonio said. "And I'm Bryan Hale's best friend. Having lunch together, holding hands—it's going to look like something it's not."
My stomach dropped. "Oh God."
"It's fine," Antonio said, but he didn't look like he thought it was fine. "We'll just explain that we were having lunch as friends. That's all."
But I had a feeling it wasn't going to be that simple.
We finished lunch quickly, and Antonio drove me back to the office. When we pulled up, he turned to me.
"Alice, I'm sorry if I made things harder for you."
"You didn't. You were just being honest."
"Still, I don't want to cause problems between you and Bryan." He insisted.
"There's nothing between Bryan and me to cause problems."
