Chapter 22 - [22] Unleashing Ancient Summoning Power

The girl sat down, and Penelope and Cho Chang stopped their magic practice and turned to look at Vizette and the girl.

"Oh! I tried a few spells at home too." The girl seemed a little excited. "It was just simple practice. I thought I knew all the spells I was going to learn this year."

"A lot of strange things happened when I was in school. When I received my acceptance letter, I realized it was magic. As far as I know, Hogwarts is the best magic school!"

"What I mean is... I've memorized all of this year's textbooks, but I've never seen this magic of yours before. By the way! My name is Hermione Granger, what are your names?"

Hermione finished speaking in a rapid-fire manner, then looked somewhat awkwardly at the other people in the carriage.

"She's Cho Chang, and I'm Penelope Clearwater," Penelope introduced. "Did you see Vizette casting a spell just now?"

"Yes!" Hermione nodded repeatedly, her eyes shining brightly. "He shouted, 'Chocolate Frog, come here!' And then the Chocolate Frog flew from his seat into his hand!"

Penelope asked incredulously, "You've learned the summoning spell?"

"I tried a few times, and that was the first time I succeeded." Vizette nodded slightly, reflecting on what had just happened.

He was so engrossed in his magic practice that he instinctively wanted to tidy up his seat, and then habitually muttered a spell.

For some reason, he remembered something Luna had once told him: when a wizard casts a spell, he always needs to have a wish in order to make the magic docile...

Penelope leaned closer. "Could you try again?"

"I'll give it a try!" Vizette did not refuse and pointed his wand at the notebook in Cho Chang's hand.

Following Penelope's advice, he first memorized the appearance of the notebook and tried to imagine the specific details of the notes.

After the image of the notebook appeared in his mind, he added the inspiration Luna had given him—to grant him a wish: he wanted to get the notebook from Cho Chang.

"Notes, fly here!"

Whoosh!

The notebook in Cho Chang's hand shot out like an arrow, tracing a sharp straight line through the air before landing firmly in Vizette's hand.

"Merlin's beard! That's fourth-year magic…" Penelope said in a daze, "Is there something wrong with my magical talent?"

"Is this fourth-year magic?" Hermione asked eagerly. "Did you buy the fourth-year textbooks in advance? Have you mastered the previous textbooks?"

Vizette shook his head slightly, "They were practicing over there just now, and I listened in for a bit..."

"Just sit in on it?" Penelope covered her cheek, her voice filled with frustration. "He's a freshman, and he's already mastered fourth-year magic, while I can't even pass my revision..."

Cho Chang was both amused and exasperated, and could only try to comfort her gently, saying, "You received the prefect's badge; it's the school's recognition of you, and Professor Flitwick's recognition of you..."

"Could it be that you're too anxious?" Vizette tried to draw on his own experience with exams from his previous life, offering her advice, "After all, the big exam is just around the corner."

"Actually, it's quite normal to feel uneasy... Miss Clearwater, after your rounds on the train, did you have lunch?"

"No." Penelope shook her head. "I just finished my patrol and came to find Cho."

"That's the reason!" Cho Chang's eyes lit up. "Why don't you eat something first? My grandfather once told me, 'Man relies on food, iron relies on steel, and you'll be starving if you don't eat.'"

"Miss Clearwater, here you go." Vizette handed over a box of chocolate frogs. "It'll give you some sugar and help relieve depression and anxiety."

"Your notes are absolutely correct, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to quickly master the Summoning Spell in just one afternoon. I practiced step by step according to your instructions."

"I don't think this is your problem, but rather that you're not in a good state right now, so you need to make some adjustments, at least to get back to your usual level."

"Is that so? Thank you..." Penelope was a little doubtful, but she still obediently ate a chocolate frog.

"How did you do that?" Hermione asked, puzzled. "Why would she listen to you? None of my classmates listen to me."

"Did I do anything?" Vizette shrugged. "Just gave her some sugar. She's just lacking a bit of normalcy."

"She just said that she has to face the OWL exam this school year, and it's very normal to have pre-exam anxiety, but it's only the beginning of the semester... What will she do later!"

"Were you a Muggle before? Why are you so familiar with exams?" Hermione asked. "I read in the books that wizards educate their children themselves to keep their profession secret and don't send them to school."

Only then did she truly begin to examine Vizette.

He had a handsome, refined face, and a sense of composure about him.

"You're Vizette? The Obscurial who appeared in the Daily Prophet? I'm not saying I'm afraid... because I'm new to the magical world... you should understand what I mean, right?"

After another rapid-fire speech, Vizette could only nod helplessly, "Perhaps you don't need to explain too much. Sometimes saying too much can lead to more mistakes and misunderstandings."

"Is that so?" Hermione frowned, as if recalling some unpleasant experience. "Maybe it really is?"

"Notes, fly here!" Penelope suddenly shouted, her tone much more forceful.

The notebook broke free from Vizette's grasp and flew back to its owner.

"This feels completely different from before! I succeeded on the first try!" she exclaimed excitedly, then placed the notebook in Cho Chang's hand. "Notebook, fly here!"

The notebook returned to her hands.

"This feels right! I could do this before, how could I suddenly fail?"

Penelope roused herself and looked at Hermione curiously, asking, "Miss Granger, I remember you were looking for something just now?"

"Oh right! I need to find Neville's toad!" Hermione realized, looking annoyed. "That's Neville's pet. I read in a book that wizards used to like keeping toads."

"I just can't stand it." Penelope shuddered. "Hogwarts keeps some toads. If you want to practice magic or test potions, you can apply to the school."

Hermione's eyes widened. "Testing potions? Using pets to test them?"

Penelope, now refreshed, was quite talkative. "At least in the Middle Ages, toads were the preferred pets of wizards, as they were very convenient for conducting various tests."

"I remember a passage in 'The History of Magic' about the misunderstanding Muggles have about wizards. They think wizards persecute Muggles and turn them into toads."

"Magic can indeed do this, but it requires a high level of magical ability. Later, the British Ministry of Magic banned the cruelty to toads, and fewer and fewer people kept toads as pets."

"Miss Clearwater, thank you! You've taught me so much, but I promised Neville I'd help him find the toad." Hermione said as she stood up, preparing to leave the carriage.

Vizette spoke up to stop her, "Miss Granger, perhaps I can help."

When Penelope was talking about the history of toad magic, he tried to combine summoning spells and modified magic, and obtained a new page:

Ancient Magic: Improved Summoning Charms (Basic Creature Capture): Guides ancient magic to cast summoning charms, enhancing the magic's power and making it effective on creatures.
