Aberforth to make sure Damian understands the importance and won't take his training for granted waited a couple of minutes in silence just looking at Damian who still knelt in front of him. Then a sneer appeared on his face and he said harshly," fine let's how much you can learn. You can't even do tables properly and serve dishes with grace. So I doubt your abilities, that's why I'll push froth one condition ".
Damian lifted his head and looked at Aberforth with some hope in his eyes. With a calm face while running Occlumancy to keep his emotions hidden, he asked," what are the conditions? ", looking at the boy who is using Occlumancy, Aberforth chuckled inwardly.
" I'll teach some magic and knowledge I know everyday, but at them end I'll check your progress. If you're not upto the standard I'll immediately stop tutoring you. Remember, if youre not upto the standard, you'll lose my guidance. If you're okay with that, then I'll start to tutor you ", Aberforth said.
Damian understood he is going to suffer the next few days more than he did in the few past days. But he agreed, this will ignite his fear of losing and also make him more determined. If he is complacent, he will grew weak and incompetent. He don't want that. He wanted to grow stronger, stronger than the master mind behind the scenes who killed his family. I won't repeat them twice ", Aberforth started about spell casting and wand movements. He told Damian how to manipulate his mana accurately for the spell to work and taught him lumos spell.
" Since we don't haveuch time left, I'll teach you the basic spell. Lumos ", a light appeared at the tip of Aberforth's wand. Damian listened intently," this is just a basic lighting spell. And this is it's opposite, Nox ", the light faded.
" I wanted you to practice this lumos spell. I need it to be bright enough to be somewhat blinding at the least. You understand ", Aberforth said and walked away.
Damian started his practice. He carefully and desperately tries to recall everything Aberforth said. Damian then started making wand gestures for few minutes before started using the lumos spell. First try resulted in a flickering light but it's not extinguished.
Second try resulted in a small light that stayed still at least and not flickering. Third try resulted in a formal lumos. Aberforth who is watching Damian through the magimirror that's connected to some surveillance runes nodded with a small smile.
He observed as Damian pracaticed the spell and improved at an astonishing rate. Now Damian is able to generate Lumos Maxima which he didn't teach the kid by himself. Although Aberforth looked at this with a smile, he didn't show his approval without a critic.
" The spell is unstable. Although the light is bright and barely blinding, it still needs improvement. You lack control over your mana. Starting tomorrow you'll train on it along with spells. Well, for first day it isn't bad. Barely reached the standard. Next time I want you to at least impress me with your progress. That's it for today. You're dismssed. Ho and take some rest ", Aberforth said.
He handed a bowl warm soup, some bread to Damian before sending him away. Aberforth then put off the lights and closed the inn. Damian returned to his room, after eating, he didn't sleep, instead he took out books for first years and started reading them until he fell asleep unknowingly.
The morning as usual begins with Aberforth's remarks and serving customers for the time being, he also read books whenever he got time. Time won't wait for him afterall, he also needs to work to achieve results. Aberforth though didn't say it, was quite satisfied seeing Damian work hard.
Lumos was a test he placed to gauge Damian's talent and focus. From now on, he will train the boy in dueling. That day, Damian is given the task to cast basic magic bolts first and then taught how to control his magic, using levitation charms on fragile objects like eggs from muggle world.
He needs to keep them under perfect control of his magic that these eggs must be levitated flawlessly and won't break on his watch. He broke like 20 eggs that day just to get the 21st barely into air for a minute or so. His control of magic from Aberforth's words is pathetic.
So Damian secretly tried practicing that night in his room with a cotton ball he made. This way, he will be able to see where the control is not good as cotton will be compressed the moment more magic applied on it. After feeling a little weak he stopped the practice, this is a sign of his mana being depleted more importantly if he keeps going on, then he will risk awakening the obscurial sleeping in him.
Do obscurus also has less reserves? Good point and the answer is yes. His mana is developed into a destructive and violent parasitic dark force. And the moment one become obscurus, a part of your mana will be permanently become like that. Other part will be regular like all other people, but still, compared to normal people, an obscurus will have many times more mana.
The days passed quickly and each day, Damian improved absorbing what knowledge he can get. He learned spells like Incendio, Petrificus Totalus, immobulus, protego, descendo, etc., currently he is learning disarming charm and stunning charm. Both are tough for first year wizard since he lacks the prerequisite knowledge.
It took a day to learn those spells form Aberforth as his trainer became too demanding recently. At the end of the day, Aberforth had a duel with Damain and beat his ass up with few spells before sending him to the sleep with a mildly powerful stunner.
