"You're one to talk, you won't tell me anything either. You know, this is the first time we've received a transmission in centuries. We've been on standby this whole time and now you're just asking weird questions, like 'am I blind' or 'do I live in a compound'. Really?" Nivra ranted.
"See that's the part I'm confused about." Xaiden said with a sigh, then continued, "Look, let's just be honest here so we can figure this out. I'll go first. Okay?"
"I've got no problem being honest, you're the one being secretive."
"You wouldn't tell me where you lived!"
"That's hardly an appropriate question!"
"Whatever, let me just explain a few things, okay?"
"Go for it, over." Nivra replied coolly.
"Okay, so my friends and I found this radio and some old notes with it. We don't know much about it, but my friend, the one I mentioned before, is good with radios. He fixed it up and 'broadcasted', or whatever it's called, the first message you got. After you replied, I started responding to you." Xaiden explained. "My friend told me that this was a rare type of radio and that there should be at least one other radio that could connect to it, so that's why we've been trying to find you. We wanted to find out more about whoever built the radio and left these notes."
"So you're saying you just randomly found it?" Nivra asked cautiously.
"Exactly. I don't know what's going on, but it seems like maybe your family was connected to whoever built this thing and maybe that's how you have a radio that can connect to this one."
"Hmm.. I don't know about my family being connected. This radio really isn't special, as I keep mentioning. This does worry me though. Does that mean Writer failed? Over" Nivra wondered aloud.
"See, that's why I'm telling you that you must have a connection to this somehow! You're using that term, 'Writer', so you must know something about this. We found transcriptions from around 400 years ago between 'Writer' and 'Reader'. That's how my friend was able to find your 'frequency' or whatever it's called." Xaiden continued.
"I mean, I'll ask my mom about the radio later on, but don't get your hopes up. I could probably go to my neighbors basement right now and tune in. A little later in the afternoon and you'd have more people jumping in." Nivra replied.
"Then how come no one replied until today?" Xaiden challenged. "We've been sending that broadcast for weeks now."
"Hmm, maybe no one was around when it went out? I only heard it today because I skipped class. How often were you broadcasting?"
"I'm actually not sure, but still, if the radio is as common as you say, surely someone would have heard it by now."
"You sure argue a lot, can we move on for now?" Nivra sighed.
"I'm just telling you what I know." Xaiden said defensively. "Anyways, it's your turn, tell me everything you know about Writer, and what do you mean when you said he 'failed'?"
