Chapter 11 - A Quiet Neighborhood.

"Thank you so much, our orphanage is just nearby. He ran out panicking because we've set him up for a foster family."

Taking the child in her hand from Max, the surveillance officer finally looked relieved. She looked kind-hearted and well-spoken compared to Patrick, and the child also looked comfortable in her arms.

"No worries, just take care of him."

Max nodded his head, then turned to look at both sisters, who looked at him as if to say 'Good job'. Max just smiled at them, then all five of them walked out of the pharmacy. The surveillance officer took the child with her and went right onto the walkway while Max and the girls went inside the car.

"Thank you for waiting."

"What are you talking about, Max? It was like fifteen minutes. I am glad we helped out the little boy."

"Yes, that little boy was so cute and pitiful."

Max thanked Danica, while Blanka found the little boy cute. They started to move forward once again. Max was looking forward to where he would live and start his new life. His goal was clear; he will become a great doctor to help people in need.

"Oh, see that building over there? That's the old couple's building I was talking about. They are very nice people."

Soon the car went to a calmer and more residential neighborhood. Danica pointed at a large building, which was five stories tall but looked very modern. Max was not sure if this building was really as budget-friendly as she claimed.

Maybe this is her way of looking into a budget-friendly place?

The cream- and chocolate-colored building looked very modern, and even the outer walls were secured with high walls, a big iron gate, and cameras. To enter the building, you need to press some kind of document for sure, because there was a black-colored machine right in front of the inner steel gate.

"Let me call Mr. Johann, he's a very nice man."

Danica parked the car in front of the building where three cars can be parked. Max looked around. The area looked very rich, people minding their own business, and the cleanliness was top-notch.

In this calm neighborhood, I can be safe from those loud parties. I think I have enough money to live in this type of apartment, right?

Max was certain this neighborhood was not cheap like what Danica mentioned earlier, but he was prepared to burn some money if he could be in a safe and nice place.

Oh? I almost forgot about the Palladium Card. I have to use it in this town again.

"Yes. Oh? That storage apartment is not available? Yeah, he's from my hometown and a very nice boy, I can personally guarantee. Alright."

"What happened?"

Before Max could ask anything, Blanka jumped in with a question. She was bored out of her mind. Max also looked eager to hear what kind of conversation Danica had.

"Mr. Johann is coming to get us. When I was here last time, they had a small apartment to rent. It was kind of a storage, but in very nice condition and cheap, but now it's rented out already."

"This place looks amazing. Max, you should rent out this place. I'll hang out with you if you do."

Danica laughed while this comment from Blanka made Max frown a little, but soon that frown faded away because he will not open the door for her.

She's a bit bothersome, but her character is nice, and she's just too pretty. It's too easy for me to fall hard for her. I don't want to live miserably in this new start of my life.

"He's here, let's go and talk with him."

Seeing a white-haired old man walking out of the big iron gate with his cane, Danica promptly went out of the car. It was clear she respected the old man. Blanka gave Max a big smile, then also went out. Max didn't know what to feel about that smile, but rolling his eyes, he opened the door and, grabbing his bag, walked out.

"Yes, that apartment was 900€. We rented it out just last month. You know every college is being filled with students now. We have one available on the fourth floor, but it's more like a family home, a bit too big for a single student. It's 3000€ per month and fully furnished."

When Max finally reached Danica, he heard the old man talking. Danica was really thinking about him. 900€ as rent in this kind of area is really cheap. Max was really interested in that big apartment. He liked the atmosphere of this place.

"Max, it's not available, sorry about that."

"It's alright, Mr. Johann. Can I see that large apartment of yours?"

White-haired Johann looked at Max from head to toe, then frowned a little. He didn't want a troublesome boy making things difficult for him and his sick wife. He can't run around asking for rent.

"Don't worry, I vouch for him. He's a nice boy. He is a bit of a cheapskate when it comes to appearance. He thinks it's a waste of money to buy new clothes when old ones are doing well."

Danica suddenly tapped on Max's shoulder with a smile to show her trust in him. She looked directly at old Johann in the eyes. Johann deliberated for a while, then nodded his head.

"15,000€ is the deposit. Keep that in mind. Come, let me show you the place."

Johann walked ahead. Danica, Blanka, and Max followed behind. Max didn't let people judging him from his clothes bother him a single bit. He knew he has to learn how to live in a big society slowly. Although he has money, it doesn't mean he knows everything.

"Old people can be a bit cynical, don't let it bother you."

"I don't care about that, I just want a nice apartment."

As Danica, with a hushed sound, tried to console Max, he smiled back and saw Johann entering a card into the black machine. It triggered the steel gate to open, then a glass sliding door welcomed them with a warm gust of wind.

"The whole building is heated and air-cooled when hot. There is another elevator that way. You will get parking for a car. There are eight more families, including me and my wife, living in this building. Oh, and a student just like you."

As they entered the lift, Johann started to talk with Max, telling him everything to know about the building. Although he was suspicious at first, Max's genuine eyes reminded him of his own youth.

"This is the fourth floor. The right-side apartment is currently available. Let me show you."
