Chapter 18 - Chapter 18: What a Truly Despicable Man

[Days pass. Before you realize it, you've stayed in the Tunguska region for another full month.]

[Over this month, with Koyanskaya and the Beast of Pleasure's "consent," you "empathize" and "synchronize" with this land's resentment. Gradually, you realize your authority over this land is no weaker than the two Beasts'.]

[During this time, through the pure energy you keep pouring in, Koyanskaya's power increases day by day—she is drawing closer to evolving into a complete Beast.]

[Meanwhile, the Beast of Pleasure's strength is also rising. She lags slightly behind Koyanskaya, but it's still unclear who will ultimately win or lose.]

[However, for some reason, the Beast of Pleasure's attitude toward you suddenly does a full 180. Every time you go to see her, she refuses you for all kinds of reasons, rejecting the pure energy "gift" you offer.]

[Suspicion and confusion fill your heart. After struggling for a long time, you finally decide to speak with her properly.]

[As usual, she refuses to meet you—but you refuse to leave the temple, patiently waiting at its door.]

[No response on the first day. You go again the next. Again on the third… On the fifth day, a beastlike low roar echoes from deep within the temple.]

[Immediately after, the temple's eternal ice gate is crushed inward by sheer force… dissolving silently into crystal dust.]

In the darkness, like the center of a void swallowed by light, a figure walked across shards of ice.

The black biomass combat suit on her body perfectly emphasized a mature, thrilling silhouette.

Not to please anyone.

It was the ultimate form of oppression and beauty—evolved for the most efficient hunt of an apex predator.

Slender thighs. A tight waist. A full chest held proudly by skin-tight fabric—forming a deadly outline.

That "heart" in her filled human body wasn't a symbol of softness.

It was a core that stored endless explosive power.

Unlike usual, her golden, beastlike eyes held no emotion. She looked indifferently at the black-haired man.

"Do you want to die, Izaya?"

He was clearly being rejected—so why keep pestering her?

Recalling what the Alien God had told her days ago, the Beast of Pleasure's eyes grew colder.

That night, an alien being from beyond Earth had sought her out—saying it was willing to help her become a complete Beast.

She no longer needed this human's help.

And of course, she no longer had any reason to see him.

Thinking that, her gaze turned icy.

"Tell me. What is it?"

"…Have you been busy lately?"

The black-haired man seemed not to notice anything strange, asking with suspicion.

The Beast of Pleasure didn't answer directly. She shook her head.

"Izaya… do you know who I am? Or who the other 'me' is?"

"Of course," Izaya nodded gently.

In the end, he could say he had witnessed them be born as they were.

"Beasts are enemies of human reason," she said slowly. "My ultimate goal—and hers—is to 'destroy' the human ecosystem…

"You should've known that long ago, right?"

Izaya nodded again.

"Then why do you still want to help us?"

When she finished, she stared straight into his eyes.

He was clearly human—and yet he had quietly purified this land's resentment and given them the pure energy he transformed.

"You should know what fate awaits me and her. Once we become complete Beasts…"

She paused.

"Knowing what future awaits, why did you still choose to help us?"

Though newly born, countless memory-images from the resentment of past creatures had formed inside her.

She knew the cruelty of human malice and every kind of scheme.

And she had seen it—

Every time the man used empathic magecraft, she watched.

No doubt at all…

He held no schemes. No interests driving him. He simply chose, voluntarily, to give away his own benefit.

Why did such strange people exist?

"…I see," Izaya smiled quickly under her cold golden gaze. "So you've been thinking about that this whole time?"

"Honestly," he continued, "I approached you with a purpose."

In that moment, even without looking up, he could tell how disappointed she was.

Compared to Koyanskaya, this Beast of Pleasure hated humans even more.

During this time, she had gradually lowered her guard—but deep down she always retained a trace of vigilance.

But that was good.

If she'd hidden her vigilance entirely, it would've been even harder.

Under her beast-cold stare, the youth's gentle voice sounded in her ear.

"Do you remember what you said before? You don't have to accept humans—but you should accept my help… That isn't a 'scene.'"

The Beast of Pleasure said icily, "So you're saying you chose to help me out of kindness?

Or…"

She narrowed her eyes.

"Pity?"

"No," Izaya Sajyou said.

He raised his gaze and met her beautiful, indifferent face.

"If I have to say it… then maybe…"

He hesitated, then spoke softly.

"…Because I like you."

A short, gentle sentence—yet it struck like a heavy hammer, smashing into the softest depth of the heart.

The Beast of Pleasure's eyes widened.

What… what—?!

A human's hand… reaching like this toward a Beast?

She stared at him blankly.

Before this, she'd considered countless possibilities.

Maybe it was hypocritical human "pity." Maybe it was instinctive "flattery" in the face of power…

But among all those possibilities, she never expected to hear the word "like."

Did he even understand what he was saying?!

After speaking with the Alien God, she had already made up her mind.

No matter how cunning humans were, she wouldn't waver—not at all.

Because this was her chance to ascend into a complete Beast.

Yet those two words were like some kind of magic—like a beam of light piercing the darkness at the bottom of her heart, making you want to grab it.

Sensing the youth's gaze, faint panic flickered in her indifferent golden eyes, and her cheeks reddened.

"Humans really are smooth-tongued," she muttered. "Not trustworthy at all."

"Then look at me when I speak," the man said gently.

The Beast of Pleasure—or perhaps a secretly stirred Koyanskaya—froze for a moment.

Unconsciously, she looked toward him and met his delicate, pale face.

He stared at her with disarming sincerity, lightly brushing her cold fingertips with one hand.

Their hands clasped, as if exchanging warmth and feeling.

Koyanskaya stared at him in a daze, and then—

A thought surfaced: something her "other self" had said not long ago.

Ah…

So that was what she'd been thinking then?

Because she liked him—so much it felt like it would overflow…

That's why she wanted to pour all of this love into him.

But—

If she really did that…

How would she be any different from that "traitor," the one acknowledged as a betrayer of human civilization?

If she found out later, how would she ever stop laughing at herself?!

The moment that thought crossed her mind, the secret Koyanskaya hurriedly stepped back and turned away, refusing to look at him.

"I… I'm a bit tired," she said. "Go back first."

Izaya asked cautiously, "Then… can I come see you again in the future?"

After a long silence, she answered softly:

"…Do what you want."

On the frozen plateau, her figure stood quietly in the night wind.

She stared at the man's back, thoughtful.

Had the two Beasts born in this land really been shaken… by a human?

"Izaya is young… is that so?"

The Alien God laughed softly.

"As expected…"

"Humans really are despicable—unchanged as ever."
