What the hell? Why didn't I pick him? What in the world did that mean? I just looked at him, confused. I had no idea what he was getting at. Did he just admit to liking me? No way. He loved me like a brother. Nothing more. Or was it more? Did I misread all his intentions? What the hell was going on? As I continued to stare at him in confusion, something seemed to click in his brain.
"Dani…? You think I am talking about Chad?" Jordan backed away, shocked and scared.
"Yeah? What else would I be talking about? Why? What are you talking about?" I am so confused.
"Jordan, the fuck are you doing?" Joel showed up all out of breath like he had run here. What was going on?
"I thought she knew? I thought she was lying to us." Jordan looked around, horrified.
"She doesn't, how would she? No one told her." Joel spoke softly to his brother, as if he were trying to talk him down from a ledge.
"How???" Jordan ran out of the house. Joel looked at me.
Sorry, Danni…" Joel ran off after Jordan.
"What in the world?" I mutter to myself.
"Agreed," Jess said confused. "I am not leaving you until Luka comes back." Jess tells me. I just nod my head. I was too freaked out about what the hell just happened.
I began to clean up the mess the Holloway brothers made when my phone started to ring. I pick it up. It was Phil.
"Hey there big hippie" I greeted.
"Hey, lil hippie. Are you okay?" He asks.
"Uh, yeah?" I replied. Did he know about Jordan? I didn't want him to be in trouble with his family.
"Jess called when Jordan showed up," Phil tells me. That would probably explain how Joel knew. "He's going through something right now. He hasn't been right in the head since the fire. I am sorry if he scared you, He just needs some time." Phil tells me.
"Was it something I did?" I asked
"It had nothing to do with anything you can control. So don't worry, he just needs space." Phil
"That isn't a really good answer," I tell him
"I know. I hope I can give you a better one soon. It's just not my place, and there is still a lot of unknown about it. I don't want to tell you something that isn't true." Phil said.
"Well, that is cryptic," I sighed.
"Do you trust me?" He asked.
"Absolutely."
"If I knew exactly what was going on, I would tell you, but I don't fully understand it myself. Once I do, you will know." Phil tells me, and I believe him. Joel didn't seem to know what to do either. Jordan was so panicked. "I know it's not fair to not tell you anything right now. But I need the complete picture. I don't want to tell you something I misunderstood."
"It's okay. I understand. I love you." I tell Phil.
"Thank you. We will talk soon! If not about this. About your upcoming birthday." Right, my birthday is coming up. Next Friday. "Don't worry, with everything going on, we will just do a simple dinner and cake. I got to go. Talk soon, little hippie. I love you."
"I love you too, big hippie," I tell Phil with a smile on my face. I was lucky to have someone like him in my life right now.
"Who's big hippie?" Luka asked.
"Geez! Way to sneak up on a girl." I drop the pile of crushed phone I was cleaning up before Phil called.
"Oh, that's my nickname for Phil. He is big hippie and I am his little hippie." I answer
"Aw, that's cute." Luka mocks.
"Yeah, yea, tease all you want! You're just jealous." I tease back. Things were simple with him. "Ouch, shit." I curse, not paying attention, I cut my finger on one piece of glass from the broken phone that Jordan smashed into the ground.
"Whoa. Let me see that." Luka
I lift my hand to Luka. He carefully examines it. "Come with me." He tells me, and I follow him to the kitchen. "Here sit." I sit where he tells me and calls out to Jess, "Hey, do you have a first aid kit?"
"Yeah! It's above the fridge? What happened?" Jess called out.
"Nothing major, Dani just cut her finger on some glass. Can you bring me tweezers?" Luka called back to her. He went to where she kept the first aid.
"I will be okay, It is just a scratch," I tell him, feeling uncomfortable with all the fuss.
"I understand that, but who knows what could have been on that glass. What was that even from?" Luka questioned. Right. He wasn't here when that happened.
"A phone," I tell him.
"Who's? Not yours because you were on it when I came in."
"Jordan," Jess said as she handed Luka the tweezers.
"He came by when I wasn't here?" Luka asked. Something seeming to bother him about that.
"Yeah. He's going through something, and he was drunk and upset. Joel got him to leave."
"What was he upset about?" Luka asked
"Yeah, do you know? All I could hear was him yelling all about." Jess remarked.
"He yelled at you?" Luka didn't seem to like that.
"Yea, but I think that was because of the booze. Phil said once he knows what's going on, he will let me know. This is totally out of character for Jordan." I explain. Luka just grunted an understanding as he tended to my hand.
"Yeah I agree. He hasn't been the same since the night of the fire." Jess mused. We have been wondering what has been up with him since. It has really bothered me. Luka seemed to be humming something as he worked. I liked it. "Well, after this really weird day, I can't wait for some normal babysitting duty." Jess huffed out a laugh.
"Oh?" Luka mused as he finished. "What else happened?"
"Ha. A lot. Mostly to dear old Danni. Maybe she can tell you if you don't end up locking lips all night." Just smirked and winked at me. Man, I wanted to hide. She really knew how to make me embarrassed without upsetting me.
"I won't say no to locking lips again, but that reaction has me curious." Now, Luka was giving me mischief eyes. I was in for a long night.
