Before leaving, Jess stuffed her face and talked about her day. She did make sure Luka was fine with staying with me until she got back. I am not sure which one of us was more freaked out by Jordan's stunt. But I think it's safe to say we both were for different reasons. Her because she was afraid of what he would do to me in his state. Me, because I have never seen someone I love act like that.
"Was it hard leaving the hospital today? Was your mom doing okay?" Luka asked. I didn't answer right away. What would he think if I told him the truth? Jess didn't react poorly, so maybe I would get lucky and he wouldn't mind.
"I wouldn't say that…" He waited for me to continue. "I talked to her like normal, saying goodbye and what my plan was, and that I would see her tomorrow. Then the machines went crazy. She looked up at me and said something really strange. There was no way I heard her correctly." I tell Luka.
"What did she say?" Luka asked me.
"I don't think she meant what she said. Maybe she wanted to tell me something else, but it came out 'Watch The Vampires'. I quickly added "I know right? There is no way I heard that correctly." I laugh at myself uncomfortably. But I could have sworn Luka tensed for a moment, but that might have been my imagination playing tricks on me. "The doctors kicked me out after they came in, telling me they were going to run tests."
"That must have been hard. Did you tell them what your mother said?" Luka asked gently.
"Haha no. I don't need them locking her up in a looney bin when she comes too if that's what she said." I joke half heartedly, because I really did worry about that.
"Why would they?" Luka asked.
"Because she hasn't been the same since my dad passed away," I admitted, but I couldn't face him. I don't know why I told him. I normally just make some sort of excuse, but it just came out. I must be really exhausted if that's the case. He moved closer into my space, strong hands cupped my cheeks, forcing my gaze to his. Piercing blue eyes watched me.
"First, you never have to look away from me when you are expressing your feelings. I will never judge you for them. Second, I would not let that happen to you. Third, it sounds like your mom lost her mate… er, soulmate, sorry. She is going to feel like an empty person for a long time. But keep loving her, keep being there for her." Luka brushes the tears from my eyes and continues talking. "I watched my father go through that. It is horrible and hard. He is mostly out of it now. But he does drift at times. We can never take life for granted when it hands us our one true love."
"I feel like she doesn't care; she left me alone." I cry out.
"I can promise you that isn't true, She is just lost in her own darkness, keep calling out for her. Be her light to the end of the tunnel." Luka tells me as he strokes soothing circles on my face. For the first time in a long time. I believe my mother might actually come out of this lost in her own darkness thing. I will work on being her light.
Luka leans in and kisses my head so gently. He got up and walked back over to the pizza. "Do you want another slice or a refill of Root beer?"
No, I wanted you to kiss me some more and put your hands on other places on my body. Nope I mentally brush those thoughts away. "Yes, please," I say to him instead. He sits back down, giving us space. I eye the now slightly larger gap between us.
"Something wrong?" He quirks a brow at me.
"Yeah, why are you sitting so far from me?" I asked.
"Because I want to hear about the rest of your day. I never heard about how shopping went." He tells me.
"So you are sitting farther away from me?" I asked, quirking an eyebrow back.
"That my dear beautiful Dani is because I dont't trust my self to keep my hands off of you, Why do you want to have a repeat of earlier in your room?" Luka playfully winks at me. I instantly am set a blaze. I look away before saying.
"Good point."
"Excuse me, Miss Ashworth. What did I say about when you express your feelings?" Luka used a very sexy, authoritative voice. I had to take a deep breath before turning to face him again. He raises an eyebrow expectantly. I take a deep breath again because man, this was hot.
"Good point," I stutter out the words this time.
"Good girl." Luka smiles wickedly at me, and my core is on fire. Oh my god! That was hot. I quickly drank some of the root beer he gave me and a couple of bites of my pizza. Trying to smother the feeling of wanting to jump on this man. Luka watched me struggle with a smirk on his face. He knew what he did. I take a deep breath yet again before I tell him about my day.
"It was okay, Jess pretty much handled it. She dragged me to the best spots like always. She has always been good at finding things I needed within the budget I have."
"Yeah it looks like you got what you needed. Do you need anything else?" Luka asks.
"Not at the moment," I answer.
"So you had fun? Are you happy with what you got?" Luka asked.
"It's always fun when I go with Jess, even when that creepy guy showed up," I tell him.
"A creepy guy?" Luka asked.
"Yeah, just a really creepy guy. He seemed to be my age, look-wise, but he gave the vibes of someone way older. Like, way older than you."
"Gee, thanks." Luka laughed. "What did he do that was creepy?" I wasn't sure why he wanted to know, but I figured I'd tell him, anyway.
"He just wanted to get to know me? He tried flirting, but he was trying too hard. Then he called me a little pup? or something like that, and smelled me when he left. When Jess showed up and told him to also fuck off, he called her a witch, but he probably meant bitch." I think Luka stiffened a bit when I told him. It was very slight, so I wasn't sure.
"He called you a pup? And smelled you?" He asked, seemingly grossed out by that. I'm glad he didn't think it was funny or cute like I am sure some boys would, but then again, he is a man. So I continued.
"Yeah, He also tried telling me he didn't bite, but he smiled so wide. It was more creepy than comforting." I shivered thinking about it.
"Yeah, that's not okay. I am glad you were not alone and you had Jess. Anything else?" He asked, seemingly unsettled by this guy at the mall like I was.
"Yeah, he went back to his group of friends when Jess showed up. Then they disappeared. It was like they were never there with how quickly they left." I tell him.
"How many friends did he have?" Luka asked.
"Maybe 5 or 6?" I thought back. I wasn't sure. "I'm not sure. He creeped us out so bad that we quickly left. But that didn't help the fact that I kept feeling like he was watching us in the shadows. Every time I tried to see him in the shadows, they seemed to get darker, which sounds crazy. I was probably still drained from the hospital.
"I don't think you're crazy beautiful." Luka kisses me on the head, smelling me. But it wasn't creepy like that guy. It was comforting. I took a deep breath, breathing in his sandalwood and citrus scent. "I will be right back. I need to make a phone call to check on some things," Luka tells me as he walks away. A sinking feeling set in my stomach. Something was wrong
