Chapter 34 - Nanoe's game

Rover felt as if his eyes had just been contaminated. He hurriedly said, "Talk properly first. Otherwise, I'll break all four of your limbs and throw you outside for the zombies to eat."

Alan and Mason shuddered at once and stopped hugging each other. However, their hands were still tightly clasped, as if they were a pair of lovebirds that would never be separated.

A dark vein bulged on Rover's forehead. He had the urge to chop their hands off, but since they were Nanoe's prey, he did not want to interfere too much.

Nanoe let out a soft sigh and said quietly, "Rover, go outside first."

Rover shook his head. "It'll be very dangerous if you stay here alone with them."

Nanoe smiled. "I'll be fine. I have a gun in my hand. As long as they dare to move, I'll kill them immediately. Besides, killing them is far easier than killing zombies."

Hearing Nanoe say that, Rover felt reassured. He glanced at Alan and Mason, then shifted his gaze to Monica, appraising her briefly before leaving the room.

Nanoe noticed Rover's gaze and also glanced at Monica.

Being stared at by both Rover and Nanoe made Monica's heart tremble. She did not know what to do. However, Nanoe's gaze carried even more scrutiny than Rover's, making her feel somewhat frightened.

'Could it be…' Monica thought to herself, a possibility flashing through her mind. 'Don't tell me that man has taken an interest in me, and this woman named Nanoe wants to kill me out of jealousy?'

Monica truly wanted to cry. Is being beautiful a sin? No, it isn't. I'm beautiful, but I don't want to attract this kind of attention.

Nanoe glanced at Monica, then shifted her gaze to Alan and Mason. Her voice, like it came straight from hell, rang out. "The door is broken, but here—I have a key."

She took a key out of her pocket and held it up high, then continued, "You two love each other very much, right? Then I have a game for you."

Next, she took out a large amount of food and placed it on the floor. Plenty of food and water, enough to snap the three people—who were starving to the brink of collapse—back to clarity, their faces filled with greed.

If she had not been holding a gun, all three of them would probably have rushed forward to seize the food.

Nanoe smiled. Her smile was very gentle, like that of a kind mother, yet Alan, Mason, and even Monica felt no warmth from it at all.

She took out one silver coin and one gold coin, then said with a smile, "The rules are very simple. One person steps up to me at a time. The other turns around."

"If both of you choose the gold coin, then neither of you will get anything, and the one who chooses second will be killed by me."

"If both of you choose the silver coin, then the one who chooses first can take all the food, while the one who chooses second will only get a room key."

"If you choose differently, then the one who chooses the gold coin will get all the food and water, including the room key. The one who chooses the silver coin will be killed by me."

Alan and Mason were stunned after hearing this. What kind of twisted game was this?

Monica was the same, her face full of confusion as she looked at Nanoe, feeling as if Nanoe were granting them a favor.

If one did not know the outcome, this would seem like a life-and-death game. But if one did know the outcome, then with Alan and Mason's love, this was nothing more than child's play.

Monica felt that the two of them would surely choose the silver coin. One would get the food and water, the other would get the room key. Working together, that meant they would obtain a new room and supplies.

Something so simple that even a child could do it.

Alan thought the same as Monica. A game so simple it was hard to believe, as if Nanoe were handing them all the supplies and the room key for free.

'Could it be… she still loves me?' Alan thought to himself. 'Hahaha… even though this woman followed another man and became a bitch, at least in the end she still left me a way to live.'

'Fine. Then I can forgive her. After all, in this world, staying alive is what matters most. When someone comes to rescue me, I'll help her a little, as repayment for the years she served as my shield.'

Outside, Rover frowned, feeling somewhat confused. His thoughts were not much different from those of the three people inside the room.

Selina, however, was different. A disdainful smile appeared on her face as she shook her head. "Nanoe is really vicious. What she's doing is no different from cutting off all their paths to survival—not only forcing them onto a road of death, but also completely destroying their minds."

"Heh?!" Rover frowned and asked in confusion, "What do you mean?"

Selina looked at Rover, tapped the tip of his nose with her index finger, and said cheerfully, "Master, you're really naïve. But that's exactly why I like you even more."

As she spoke, she stood on her tiptoes and lightly kissed his lips, then hugged him, burying her head against his chest like a little cat.

Rover sighed. Ever since Billy died, she had become like a leech—whenever there was a moment of rest, she would cling to him, rubbing against his chest, hugging him, and so on.

He felt as if Selina's personality had completely changed, becoming far more dependent on him.

Selina smiled and said, "Master, Nanoe is playing the 'Prisoner's Dilemma.'"

"Prisoner's Dilemma? What is that?" Rover frowned. It was the first time he had heard such a strange term. His hand gently stroked Selina's back, as if petting an adorable cat.

Selina took a deep breath of the masculine scent on Rover and smiled. "The Prisoner's Dilemma is a type of criminal interrogation used when dealing with a group of criminals. Each criminal is separated into a different room. They can't communicate or talk to one another at all. They're completely isolated."

"At that point, the police offer them an olive branch—that is, if one person confesses the entire crime, that person will be released, and the punishment will be distributed among the others."

"If most of the criminals confess and only a few refuse, then those who refuse to confess will receive the heaviest sentence."

"However, if everyone confesses, then the sentence is shared equally."

"But… what if everyone stays silent? That would mean everyone is innocent."

After hearing this, Rover felt that the 'Prisoner's Dilemma' Selina described was indeed very similar to what Nanoe was doing.

However, he suddenly thought of something and immediately said, "Wait! What if they all agree in advance not to confess?"

"Hahahaha…" Selina suddenly laughed. She lifted her head to look at him, and her hand slipped into his pants, grasping him and making him flinch slightly.

"Selina, this place is—"

"Master, you're really naïve." Selina laughed. "But that's exactly what makes me love you even more. Ah! No, no matter what kind of person Master is, I'll love you all the same."

Rover: "…"

He felt as if Selina's personality was changing in a direction he could hardly understand.

Somewhat like… a yandere.

Selina continued, "Human nature is the cheapest thing there is, and also the easiest thing to deceive. Do you really think they would believe that one of their accomplices would remain loyal and never betray them?"

"This…" Rover frowned, seeming to grasp something.

Selina smiled, her hand gently stroking him, making him grow harder. "If everyone confesses, then each person will go to prison to some extent. But what if everyone thinks… that they'll be the only one to confess?"

Rover took a deep breath. Part of it was because the 'Prisoner's Dilemma' was terrifying, striking directly at the human psyche. Another part was because Selina's hand made it difficult for him to keep himself under control.

Selina licked her lips, her eyes gradually becoming more moist as she smiled and said, "In the face of absolute benefit, human nature is the most worthless, the lowest, the cheapest thing there is. Master… do you want to make a bet with me?"

Rover glanced at Selina's hand moving inside his pants and asked softly, "What kind of bet?"

"Hehehe…" Selina laughed greedily, leaning in close to Rover's ear as she whispered, "After this is all over, I want to do it with Master… outside."

Rover: "…"
