Chapter 39 - Lamp-Bearer

[You have completed a full 8 hours of sleep. You have obtained 110 Omni Points. Current total: 1,078.5 points.]

Rover slowly woke up. Seeing that Nanoe and Selina were still asleep, he covered them with the blanket instead of waking them. How crazy the three of them had been back then, he still remembered clearly even now.

He also hadn't expected that after his strength increased, sleeping with them would become even more frenzied and out of control.

Rover shook his head, walked over to the chair in the room, and opened the System notification panel to check.

"A new notice?" Rover frowned and tapped it. An information panel appeared before him.

[Notice: The danger has been eliminated. However, too many Survivors have died. The System will fill the empty slots with Survivors from other zones. The event will resume after 24 hours.]

"Survivors from other zones?" Rover immediately frowned, his face gradually turning anxious.

He and Nanoe had been able to guess that in this world, they weren't alone, but this was way too fast.

Rover opened the chat window. Sure enough, just as he thought, the remaining survivors in the chat had already started spiraling into chaos.

[XXX]: Damn it! Survivors from other zones… is the System trying to merge servers?

[XXX]: If they're all like us, what's there to be afraid of?

[XXX]: You're thinking too simply. I feel the Survivors the System brings will definitely be stronger than us.

[XXX]: The guy above, why do you say that?

[XXX]: It's very simple. If in a server, the number of players drops sharply but the monsters don't get weaker, what would you do? Of course you merge a new server with the old one. Not only can the old players support the new players, it can also balance the game.

[XXX]: What?! Damn it! Damn it! If the Survivors coming are stronger than us, won't we have to die?

[XXX]: Don't worry. There must be restrictions. They can't just kill people at will.

[XXX]: That's right, there are restrictions. But we still have to prepare a bit. We can't let them bully us.

[XXX]: Simple. As long as we unite and form an organization, they definitely can't oppress us.

[XXX]: I'm in room 1405. I hope I can find other Survivors still alive in the same Block to form a group.

[XXX]: I'm in Block A. Anyone want to form a group with me?

[Room 1605 – Dokai]: I'm gathering the survivors in Block B into a group. I'm special forces, trained formally, and I can help you survive.

[XXX]: Wow! Special forces!

[XXX]: Tch! So what if he's military? In Block C there's a young man with two beautiful girls who wiped out all the zombies. We don't need to join any group at all.

[XXX]: Damn it! Real or fake? One guy with two girls, cleared all the zombies.

[XXX]: (Image 1) (Image 2) (Image 3)

[XXX]: Oh my God! They even killed Tanker and Licker zombies. What the hell are they? A bug?

[XXX]: I suspect they have high-tier skills.

[XXX]: Even so, so what? Them being strong doesn't mean they'll save everyone. I think they only want to farm points on the rankings.

[XXX]: Wait! That young man who killed so many zombies… isn't he Rover?

Seeing that everyone had figured him out, Rover didn't want to keep reading. The next lines of chat would probably be demands for him to protect everyone, cursing him for being selfish, and so on.

He didn't care. After all, selfishness was simply human nature. He didn't think of himself as a hero who would save everyone.

What he paid attention to was… there were only 132 survivors left.

Among them, Block C had the most survivors, a total of 68 people. He felt that was normal. Block C was where he lived, and he, Nanoe, and Selina had wiped out almost all the zombies, so the others were safer too.

Rover didn't want to think too much. Instead of thinking, he might as well use that time to become stronger.

"System, I want to upgrade my cultivation method."

[Ding! To upgrade your Strength and Spirit cultivation methods, you must pay 400 Omni Points.]

Rover nodded and replied at once, "Upgrade immediately."

[Ding! Upgrade successful.]

[Strength Cultivation Method]

[Rank: D35]

[Level: 01]

[Description: After use, you can cultivate and increase physical strength. Each day, you can cultivate for 4 hours. Each hour increases Physique by 1 point.]

[Upgrade Condition: 1,000 Omni Points.]

[Note: You can pass it on to people in the same room to cultivate, however, the effect is only 50% compared to the owner of this Cultivation Method.]

[Spirit Cultivation Method]

[Rank: D35]

[Level: 00]

[Description: After use, you can cultivate and increase Spirit strength. Each day, you can cultivate for 4 hours. Each hour increases Spirit by 1 point.]

[Upgrade Condition: 1,000 Omni Points.]

[Note: You can pass it on to people in the same room to cultivate, however, the effect is only 50% compared to the owner of this Cultivation Method.]

….

Rover nodded, feeling extremely satisfied inside. That way, every day he could increase his Physique by 4 points and his Spirit by 4 points.

He checked the amount of free attribute points he had obtained from the skill [Devour].

[40.5 / 500]

"To reach the 500 cap will probably take quite a long road." Rover chuckled. "By then, I'll probably have gathered enough points to upgrade the skill [Devour] too."

After finishing up, he didn't sit around. He began cultivating. After he had cultivated for about 30 minutes, Selina and Nanoe also woke up, and they started cultivating as well.

After spending 8 hours cultivating, Rover's attributes increased again.

[Rover: Physique 19 | Spirit 29]

[Nanoe: Physique 10 | Spirit 12]

[Seline: Physique 12 (+4) | Spirit 10]

Rover looked at his Spirit which had reached 29 points, but…

He glanced at Nanoe and said softly, "Nanoe, try using the skill you just learned."

Nanoe stood up. She didn't wave her hands around like a mage. Instead, she held her gun and said softly, "Rover, you'd better open the door."

Hearing that, Rover used his mind to open the door. Nanoe immediately pulled the trigger.

Around the gun barrel, a small magic circle appeared, just enough to envelop the gun within it, and then…

BANG!

A shrill sound rang out. A fireball the size of a marble shot toward the wall at an insane speed.

BOOM!

A terrifying explosion echoed when the bullet struck the wall opposite the room door, flames bursting outward with horrifying heat.

Rover's eyes widened at the sight, his face filled with disbelief as he stared at Nanoe.

That was a Rank D skill. Damn it! That was a rank D skill. Just a rank D skill, and its destructive power was already that terrifying.

But what about his rank A skill? Even now, he still didn't know how to optimize it or use it well.

Rover let out a sigh and asked softly, "Why did you use a gun?"

Nanoe smiled and said, "Because I feel using a gun is better. That way, I can compress the fireball into a small marble. When I shoot it, the speed is faster and the destructive power is stronger too."

Rover nodded and asked, "How many times can you fire?"

Nanoe tilted her head, thought for a moment, then said, "With my current Spirit points, I can fire about 5 to 7 times like that. But I can focus all my power into a single shot. Of course, the destructive power would be extremely terrifying."

At this moment, Rover was thoroughly jealous of Nanoe. And what about his skill? Someone… please, help him use this damn thing.

After all, his Spirit had reached 29 points, but aside from restraining enemies and making them stand still, he didn't know what else to do with it.

Knock! Knock! Knock!

Suddenly, the knocking made Rover frown.

Nanoe immediately moved to the door and looked through the small glass window. However, he didn't know what she saw, but her expression first jolted, then she looked toward Rover with worry.

Rover frowned and walked to the door.

Outside stood a man wearing cyber-style mechanical armor, a golden shield strapped to his back, and an old lamp hanging at his waist, emitting a faint blue glow.

Rover couldn't see the man's face clearly, because a helmet with a black visor completely covered it.

"What the hell is this?" Rover frowned and glanced at Nanoe.

Nanoe shook her head, indicating she didn't understand.

However, thanks to the skill [Intuition], Rover could sense that the man didn't carry any hostility.

Rover frowned and decided to speak. "Who are you? Why are you knocking on my door?"

"Ah! Hahaha…" The man laughed awkwardly and said softly, "Well… I'm a bit hungry. Can you give me some food? Of course, I'll trade some items in exchange."

Rover waved his hand, signaling Nanoe and Selina to go into the bathroom.

He opened the door and faced the man in front of him.

"Hello!" The man said. His voice sounded like a middle-aged man, but there was a relaxed ease in it, like a wind unbound. "First time meeting. I'm the Lamp-bearer, Otrix."

"Lamp-bearer?" Rover frowned, his gaze locking onto Otrix.

Otrix nodded. "That's right. I need some food, and I can trade you anything you need."

Rover felt the man was a bit strange. He gave Rover the feeling that he wasn't a Survivor, but an NPC created by the System.

However, Rover had no intention of refusing. If this was an NPC of the system, then he should help even more. Maybe there would be some unexpected gain.

Rover smiled. "Fine! I can give you a lot of food, but what can you give me?"

"Hm…" Otrix pondered for a moment. Then his finger touched the visor on his helmet. A blue beam shot out and, in a brief instant, scanned Rover's body.

By the time Rover reacted, the beam had already vanished.

"You…" Rover jolted, his gaze turning wary toward Otrix.

Otrix smiled. "Don't worry. I just scanned your body to see what you need. Looks like… I know where your problem lies. I can give you this."

As he spoke, he opened his palm in front of Rover. On it, a cluster of blue light gathered together, forming a small walkie-talkie.

"This is…" Rover stared at the walkie-talkie in confusion, then looked back at Otrix.

Otrix explained softly, "This is called the [Walkie-talkie of the Chosen]. It can help you contact Survivors who once ranked at the top in previous rounds of the game."
