Chapter 101 - Minh Solves the Body

Minh did not hit Huyền Kha first.

He moved the camera first.

Not by touching it.

By changing what it could see.

He stepped into the blind edge beside the landing mirror, forcing Huyền Kha to either follow into bad footage or retreat into the wet step he had prepared for Minh.

For one breath, Huyền Kha had to choose inside his own trap.

That was the opening.

Minh used it.

One Beat.

Not the old version.

The old version began in anger and cleaned itself halfway through. This one began in breath, carried anger as weight, and refused to let it steer.

Palm to shoulder.

Turn.

Root.

Stop.

Huyền Kha's body hit the wall beside the camera hard enough to crack plastic housing.

No throat.

No knee.

No second hit.

Gomboc screamed for the finish.

Minh opened his hand instead.

Huyền Kha looked at that hand with more interest than fear.

That was when Minh understood he had not escaped the test.

He had completed a harder section.

"Post-Lãnh Phong modification," Huyền Kha said, breath rough but eyes bright. "Anger retained as load, not trigger. Lâm's absence reduces immediate stabilization but does not remove pattern. Interesting."

Minh grabbed his collar.

For one ugly second, the camera would have loved him.

He let go.

"Where is Hạ Yên?"

Huyền Kha smiled through blood.

"You keep returning to the human question."

"Answer it."

"Moved before you entered."

The stairwell went quiet.

Even Gomboc stopped laughing.

Minh's body wanted to strike.

His mind wanted to deny.

His heart understood first.

The route had never been a rescue route.

It had been a measurement route.

Huyền Kha touched the cracked camera with two fingers and pulled something small from behind it: a storage card.

Minh moved.

Too late.

Huyền Kha dropped backward over the railing to the lower landing, caught the rail with one hand, and disappeared through a service door that should not have opened.

Tân Phong's voice snapped in Minh's ear.

"Route changed. He had an exit behind the camera."

Minh stared at the empty stairwell.

He had solved the body.

Huyền Kha had solved the room.

Somewhere below, a door closed without a slam.

Clean escapes were the cruelest kind.

Minh gave Huyền Kha the shoulder he wanted.

Not fully. Just enough.

He let frustration lift his right side, let his breath shorten, let his foot show the beginning of a rush. Huyền Kha saw the pattern and stepped into the counter before the pattern finished existing.

That was the first time Minh chose the lie instead of falling into one.

He dropped his weight, not forward but sideways, into the blind edge beside the mirror. Huyền Kha's hand touched empty air where Minh's wrist should have been. The clinic pen flashed toward a thumb joint that was no longer there.

Minh used his forearm against Huyền Kha's elbow and his hip against the stair rail.

No cinematic punch.

No beautiful revenge.

Just body mechanics Lãnh Phong had drilled until they became available under fear.

Huyền Kha hit the wall hard enough to crack the plastic camera case.

For one breath, Minh had him.

Everything hungry in Minh understood that moment. Gomboc screamed for conclusion. The old hurt from Lâm's hand, Hạ Yên's room, Lao's smile, every file with his life reduced to function - all of it gathered into his fist.

He opened his hand instead.

Huyền Kha saw the choice and smiled through blood.

That smile told Minh the choice had also been data.

The victory curdled.

When Huyền Kha escaped through the service door, Minh understood the worst part: solving the fight had not solved the system. Huyền Kha had never needed to win the stairwell. He had needed to learn what Minh would do when winning became possible.

The open hand stayed in Minh's memory longer than the impact. It was not mercy exactly. Mercy felt too clean. It was refusal. A refusal to let Huyền Kha decide that every lesson, every loss, every pill and voice and wound had been leading to one predictable fist.

The counter was ugly.

Lãnh Phong would have approved.

Minh did not spin, leap, or strike from cinematic rage. He placed his heel against the stair nosing, used the rail as a line rather than a support, and let Huyền Kha's next touch arrive where a wrist seemed available.

Then he removed the wrist.

Huyền Kha's fingers met empty air and his weight committed half a breath too far. Minh's forearm cut across the elbow joint, not to break, but to redirect. Hip pressure closed the space. Shoulder drove through the center.

Huyền Kha hit the wall.

For once, the room gave a simple sound.

Impact.

No edit. No loop. No speaker.

Minh nearly loved it.

That was the danger.

Huyền Kha's blood marked the corner of his mouth, and Minh's body wanted the follow-up with a clarity that felt cleaner than thought. He saw how easy it would be to call the next strike justice. Lâm's hand. Hạ Yên's room. The files. The voices. Every wound offering itself as permission.

His fist closed.

Then opened.

He grabbed collar instead of throat and pinned Huyền Kha where the cracked camera could see both their faces.

"Where is she?"

Huyền Kha looked not at Minh's grip, but at the open hand.

"That," he whispered, "is new."

Minh understood too late that the refusal had been recorded as clearly as any violence.

Growth could be stolen too.

On the feed, Lâm saw the open hand and understood before anyone explained. He had asked Minh not to enjoy revenge in his name. Now he watched Minh refuse the cleanest chance to do exactly that. The refusal did not fix Lâm's hand. It protected something harder to name.

Minh heard Lâm breathe through the earpiece after the open hand. No words. Just breath. It was enough to remind him the choice had witnesses who mattered more than cameras. Huyền Kha could steal footage. He could not fully own that breath.
