Sunless and Sonia stayed outside the door and watched the procedure of the surgery in silence.
In Sunless' mind he was already thinking of how to obtain the bubbles inside the ward.
After watching for a few minutes, Sunless was startled when he noticed something.
One of the bubbles flickered in and out of existence like a dying lamp before popping and vanishing.
'There's a time limit?' Sunless stared dumbfounded at the sight.
Through the corner of his eyes he noticed another bubble flickering before dying out.
Sunless watched in disappointment as all the bubbles disappeared one after the other.
"Is something wrong?" Sonia questioned, noticing the look of disappointment on Sunless' face.
Sunless tried to cheer himself internally.
'I can still gain more attribute bubbles in the future so it doesn't matter much if I let go of these few.'
He couldn't interrupt the surgery as it would be detrimental to the person's health, so Sunless consoled himself.
He turned to Sonia with a slight smile, "Yeah, I'm alright. Let's go somewhere else."
Hearing Sunless' words, Sonia glanced at the surgery room before nodding.
"Alright."
With that she led him through the white corridors all the way down the hall.
Suddenly, Sunless caught something through the corner of his eyes.
A man was running, and as he did a few bubbles poured out from his body one after the other.
In a flash he passed beside him and Sonia and continued on his way.
Glancing at the attribute bubbles, Sunless' eyes lit up.
Without hesitation, he calmly walked toward the bubbles, ignoring the peculiar look Sonia was giving him.
As his foot touched the first one, it vanished, and a line of words appeared in his mind.
[Ding! Gained 1 agility attribute. Congratulations on stepping into the entry stage speed type profession.]
A smirk appeared at the corner of Sunless' lips, then the next moment he increased his speed.
[Ding! Gained 1 agility attribute.]
[Ding! Gained 1 agility attribute.]
[Ding! Gained 1 agility attribute.]
After Sunless was done he had gathered 5 agility attributes.
He felt a feeling of floating slightly, and as he walked his steps grew unsteady.
Sunless could feel a slight increase in the movements of his body, causing him to be astounded internally.
After testing out his steps he finally arrived at Sonia's location.
Sonia glanced at Sunless with narrowed eyes.
"Are you sure you're alright? Since when you woke up you've been behaving strangely."
In her mind Sonia wondered, 'Did he lose his mind because he only has a few days to live?'
Although such a thought was far fetched, there could be some truth to it.
Sunless just laughed and shrugged before saying:
"Like I told you, don't worry about it. I've never been better."
Sonia stared at Sunless for a long while before nodding.
"Okay, let's continue our stroll."
Sunless followed behind her.
Along the way he didn't find any attribute bubbles, causing him to be slightly disappointed.
Feeling a stinging pain in his body, Sunless knew his sickness was acting up again.
He groaned and blood surged up to his mouth, which he spat out onto the ground.
"Sunless!" Sonia was suddenly shocked.
Hastily she rushed toward Sunless, who was wiping the corner of his lips with an emotionless expression.
"It's nothing, just a slight pain. I'll go back to the hospital ward now."
Saying so, Sunless staggered slightly and walked back to his room.
Sonia stared at Sunless for a moment, a frown forming on her face.
'His health is deteriorating considerably,' Sonia felt nervous internally.
With a sigh, she shifted her attention back to the blood that Sunless had coughed out.
It was deep red, but there were some blackish traces in it.
It was soon handled by the cleaner as she followed behind Sunless back to his ward.
Sunless lay on his bed gazing up at the ceiling and feeling his weak body.
He had to gain attribute bubbles.
'From what I've noticed so far, I can obtain attribute bubbles when someone actively engages in their work.'
'If I can get someone to fight, there's a chance I can gain the corresponding attribute bubbles. Then engaging with a martial warrior…'
Sunless' mind drifted off and he didn't know when he fell asleep.
Fighting with a martial warrior should bring him the corresponding martial attribute if his guess wasn't wrong.
At least if he was alive by the end of the fight to take the attribute.
Sonia soon entered the room, and seeing the peacefully sleeping Sunless, she sighed and walked up to him.
She stroked his cheeks, and a tear drop slid down hers.
"Sunless…" she bit her lips, her eyes filled with some reluctance as she stared at him.
Sunless might not recall it, but she did remember what happened a few years ago between them.
…
It was in the outskirts of the city. She was quite young at that time and had almost fallen victim to a few thugs.
Back then, a youth who was around 13 years stepped forward to confront the goons.
Although he was badly beaten to an almost near death state, his heroic act allowed her to not get her dignity stolen from her.
She still perfectly recalled that night vividly and she couldn't forget the image of Sunless that had been burned into her mind.
…
Coming out from her reminiscent state, she glanced at Sunless and sighed once more before removing her hand from his face.
…
Sunless didn't know how long he slept for, but finally he woke up and noticed everywhere was dark.
Staring at the neon streets still bustling with life, Sunless dragged himself up to his feet then staggered to the wall and put on the lights.
'The underground fight arena should be the perfect place to gain attribute bubbles.'
Sunless' thoughts raced as he thought of this familiar place.
It was a place where most of the lower ranked thugs in the city met and brawled out their frustrations and settled their differences.
It was also the place where he had met Jake and borrowed some money.
Sunless thought for a bit.
"If I try getting a cleaning job there, there's a chance I'll miss out on most of the attribute bubbles. The only option is to join the arena as one of the fighters."
Sunless rubbed his chin slightly, feeling his weakened body.
'This is going to be extremely tough. But the benefits to be gotten from it are quite substantial.'
With a low exhale, Sunless glanced at his unconscious sister and stood up, ignoring the pain racking through his bones.
Despite the pain, despite the weakness, despite the urge to lay down in bed and just rest peacefully like everyone else in such a situation, he still stood up with conviction.
It was something he had to do as the elder brother.
With that, Sunless staggered out of the hospital ward.
His destination, the fight arena.
