Chapter 32: Solving the Difference Between the Mangekyou Sharingan and the Three Tomoe Sharingan
"Your house is really big."
Kenichi Amamiya sat across from Kakashi, looking around a little dazed.
How did things end up like this again?
A short while ago, he had just been eating ramen with Kakashi at Ichiraku. Somehow, after that bowl of ramen, he found himself sitting in Kakashi's living room.
"I'm all alone here," Kakashi said.
His expression was still as lifeless as ever, but he still got up and poured Kenichi a cup of tea.
"Your eye must really be a burden on you, right?"
Kenichi lifted the cup, took a sip, and silently evaluated it. The taste was fine. Not amazing, but at least it did not have any strange flavor.
He had heard that in his previous life there were people who liked to add all kinds of weird things to tea. This was at least normal tea.
Kakashi subconsciously reached toward his left eye.
That eye had been given to him by his best friend Obito. It was an incredibly powerful Sharingan. When he first returned to the village, members of the Uchiha clan had harassed him over it. If Minato had not intervened, things might have ended very badly.
"Hmm."
Just mentioning the Sharingan gave Kakashi a headache.
The Sharingan was undeniably powerful, but the price was heavy. Its chakra consumption was enormous. Right now, every day, the eye was constantly draining his chakra. Getting used to that kind of consumption was extremely difficult.
Kenichi rubbed his chin. He almost blurted out, "Then give it to me."
This was the Mangekyou Sharingan.
He wanted it badly.
Kenichi was desperate to study exactly how this eye differed from an ordinary three tomoe Sharingan, and even from a two tomoe Sharingan.
The Mangekyou Sharingan was an eye of overwhelming power. The techniques it granted could twist space, control minds, and burn everything to ash. In exchange, every use consumed its light and pushed the user toward blindness.
To solve that problem, one had to evolve the Mangekyou into the Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan, reducing the drain on the eye and allowing its power to develop further.
But why did the Mangekyou's unique techniques cause the eye itself to slowly go blind?
What was the exact difference in structure between a Mangekyou and an Eternal Mangekyou?
Were the Mangekyou pupil patterns truly random, or did they follow a fixed underlying rule?
If someone could somehow give themselves a Mangekyou pattern identical to Shisui's, would they be able to use Kotoamatsukami?
"I really want to know," Kenichi thought, licking his lips unconsciously in excitement.
There were not many Mangekyou users in the entire ninja world to begin with. Right now, the only ones Kenichi knew about were Kakashi and Obito. In the future, there would likely be Shisui and Itachi as well.
As for Fugaku, the Uchiha clan head, Kenichi was not sure whether he had the Mangekyou or not.
But if you talked purely about how easy they were to access right now, Kakashi's eye was definitely the most realistic target.
Of course, he could not be too obvious about it at this stage.
"Kakashi, um… this is a little embarrassing to ask, but…"
Kenichi deliberately lowered his head, letting his voice carry just the right amount of hesitant embarrassment as he spoke.
Kakashi froze for a moment when he heard that.
But he did not overthink it. Among Konoha's higher ups, it was no secret that he had created a ninjutsu called Chidori.
"This ninjutsu is very simple. I can teach you if you want to learn it."
Kakashi was silent for a while, then made his decision.
After all, Minato and his wife had both urged him more than once to make more friends. Since his teacher had said so, he should at least make an effort.
"Thanks, Kakashi!"
Kenichi smiled, the corners of his mouth lifting naturally. His gaze, however, could not help drifting for a second to Kakashi's Sharingan.
That Mangekyou Sharingan was something he absolutely had to obtain.
Shisui and Itachi would still need time to awaken their eyes. Obito was not someone he could easily approach. Kakashi was the only realistic path.
Later that night, Kenichi dragged his exhausted body back home and collapsed on his narrow bed.
"I feel a little guilty," he muttered.
Learning Chidori was not particularly difficult for him. Kenichi was confident he could master it quickly, though it would still take some training time.
What really gave him a headache was how to take Kakashi's Mangekyou Sharingan during the Nine Tails' rampage.
First of all, Kakashi's current strength was nothing to scoff at.
He had already become a jonin at a very young age. Even without the First Hokage's Sage Body, Kakashi's talent was far greater than that of the average ninja.
Secondly, while the Sharingan put a heavy burden on Kakashi's body, it also undeniably boosted his combat ability.
"Maybe I can drain his chakra completely. Kakashi definitely does not have the same chakra reserves he will have in the future."
Kenichi stroked his chin. That plan sounded workable.
His own strength had increased greatly by now. If he ended up clashing with Kakashi, he would not be without a chance of victory.
The real problem was that he still had not mastered Sage Mode.
That thought made him even more eager for his first real meeting with the First Hokage.
Of course, he also had to be prepared for the possibility that Hashirama would refuse to teach him.
If that happened, he would likely have to rely on Orochimaru, travel to Ryuchi Cave, and learn sage arts from the White Snake Sage.
Developing Sage Mode purely on his own was not impossible in theory, but the risk of turning to stone from mishandling natural energy made him extremely cautious.
"Alright, the plan is set. I will study the differences between the three tomoe Sharingan and the Mangekyou Sharingan first. The Eternal Mangekyou is still too far away."
Kenichi stretched and exhaled slowly.
His own research was already progressing smoothly. In theory, he had already reproduced the three tomoe Sharingan. That was precisely why he dared to consider taking Kakashi's eye.
Even though Kakashi's Sharingan currently appeared to be just an ordinary three tomoe eye, Kenichi knew that it had already evolved into the Mangekyou.
Kakashi simply had not learned how to activate it yet, so he remained unaware of its true state.
Kenichi felt a little sorry for him.
But even so, he believed that even without the Sharingan, Kakashi would still be able to carve out his own powerful path. After all, Kakashi was a genuine genius.
The real trouble was Obito.
"If Obito finds out Kakashi's Sharingan is gone, that is going to be a headache."
Just thinking about Obito made Kenichi frown.
Obito would not view the situation the same way when it came to Kakashi versus some complete stranger like Kenichi.
With Kakashi there, Obito would likely continue to follow the original story's path.
With Kenichi in the picture instead, who knew what choices Obito might make?
Kenichi shook his head hard, forcing those thoughts aside.
The night of the Nine Tails' rampage was almost here.
He needed to start preparing for that night in earnest.
If everything went smoothly, he would be able to take away a sizable amount of funding, a batch of research materials, and perhaps even the Mangekyou Sharingan.
That would be a huge haul.
"Come on, masked big brother," he muttered under his breath, a wicked little grin tugging at his lips.
All that was left was for that androgynous troublemaker to make his move and plunge everything into chaos.
