Chapter 11 - Smell

Heavens's POV

I walked towards the ballroom. Mrs. Higgins was waiting for me near the servant entrance. She had a smile on her face when she saw me.

"You're looking so beautiful, dear," she said, even though we both kno that it wasnt true.

"Let's go, we need to get you inside before the ceremony i starts. We'll stand at the back with the other staffs" she said.

When I entered the ballroom, it was the most beautiful room. There were so many people from the pack and even some that I didn't recognize. The quadruplet distant relatives were also invited to witness the official coronation.

Mrs. Higgins led me to a corner where other servants stood. But I was grateful for it. The less attention on me, the better.

"Are you alright there?" Mrs. Higgins whispered,,noticing how uncomfortable I was getting.

I nodded but it wasn't true. I felt so uncomfortable and the hex bag was making it worse for me. It kept getting warmer and warmer, ,which was odd. I don't think it was supposed to ofeel this way.

I also smelt something from my body, but maybe it was the infection from my back that was spreading and was making it smell.

I turned to Mrs.Higgins to tell her about it, before I could say anything. The main doors of the ballroom slowly opened.

The quadruplets, Damian, Damon, Desmond, and Dylan entered the ballroom and every wolf in the room felt it. They all bowed their head in respect, including me and the other servants.

Demian led them as always, while Demian, Desmond, and Dylan followed behind.

They moved towards the raised platforms and sat in their respective chairs.

"The Alpha's Relative are present,"Mrs. Higgins whispered.

My eyes turned towards the side of the platform where they were all sitted.

"I didn't know Beta Lucian would be present, Mrs. Higgins said with a smile."

I sighted him at the edge, Beta Lucian is the brother of the former Alpha and the uncle to the Quadruplets. He had been their guardian since their parent died during an assassination three years ago.

He had a great aura that people respected so much. I remember that I use to admire him when I was little, he was the most handsome man in the whole pack and I use to joke that I would marry him.

I haven't seen him in a very long time, since the death of the former Alpha and Luna. The humors had it that he couldn't stand to watch the quadruplets take over the throne because he was jealous, but that wasn't the case. He loved the Alpha just as much as he loved his brother, the former Alpha.

But if the quadruplet weren't in the picture, he would have made a fine Alpha.

The five Council of Elders, who served as advisors and keepers of traditions, stood beside the quadruplet

Elder Mordecai who is the oldest and the most respected elder in the pack stepped forward to address the crowd.

"Wolves of the Full Moon Pack, and honored guest beyond this pack," His voice was loud enough despite his age. "Tonight, the Bloodstone Brothers will officially take their place as Alphas of this Great pack."

The crowd cheered and howled, I watched as the quadruplets composed their faces as they were ready to receive their birthright.

Elder Mordecai raised his hands and the cheering and howling stopped.

"But first, There is one more ceremony we must do tonight," he said. "The Bloodstone brother's mate bond will be revealed, if the Moon Goddess has blessed them with one"

"For this ceremony, all shewolves within the age of eighteen and older, who are yet to find their mate must step forward," He said

Shewolfs began stepping forward one after the other. They looked hopeful that they would probably be the ones mated to the Alphas and become the next Luna, but we all knew the truth. It was either Sophia or no one else.

"Go, my dear," Mrs. Higgins said smiling with hope.

I nodded and she didn't press further. We both knew that today wasn't going to be any different. I should have shifted at thirteen but nothing has happened till this day. I am wolfless so getting a mate now is impossible

"Step aside," Sofia said, loud enough for all of the wolves to hear.

The crowd parted as Sophia walked towards the platform. She moved confidently as a soft smile appeared on her lips like she already knew she was destined to be beside the quadruplets.

She stopped at the very front of the other shewolves like she was their master and they were her puppet.

"Father Dominic, please begin," Elder Mordecai said.

Father Dominic is the pack priest who is in charge of officiating the ceremony.

"Moon Goddess, on this sacred night, we'll call on you. Reveal the mate you have chosen for the future Alphas of the Full Moon Pack" Father Dominic said

The hall was completely silent. "Let the mate cord appear. Link them, mate to mate, heart to heart, soul to soul."

He began to chant in old languages. The words were slow and deep. They made my skin prickle and my heart began to race.

Then I began to feel oddly weird. My back ached so bad that and I started to smell a strong scent oozing from my body. It felt like i something was scratching on the wounds on my back.

"Mrs Higgins, I don't feel too well," I whispered, tapping on her arm gently to get her attention.

"What's that smell?" Mrs.Higgins asked confused without answering my question.

Wolves around me stared at me weirdly. Some covered their noses while others looked at me like they were shit smeared all over my body.

I was confused. Everything felt upside down. I thought it must be the infection acting up again.

"Is that what I think it is?" Mrs. Higgins asked, pointing at the hex bag around my neck.

Before I knew it, she reached out her hands and dragged the hex bag off my neck with so much force. It fell and tiny beads scattered on the floor.

I looked down in shock then up at her again. But I felt relief and the smell immediately went away.

"Are you feeling okay now," Mrs Higgins asked concerned.

I didn't understand what was going on. "I don't kno…"

Then suddenly I felt something weird on my hand. I looked down and I was horrified. There was a mating cord around my wrist.

The golden cord astonishingly pulsed with light as it wrapped around my wrist tightly. It was extended towards someone.

I wasn't supposed to have a mate bond without having a wolf. And still…deep down, a small part of me felt happy. I was finally going to be able to leave this park with my mate and start a better life somewhere else.

Wolfs around me began to gasps amd murmur.

"Heaven, your cord…," Mrs Higgins whispered.

The cord pulled me forward, demanding that I follow it, dragging me through the crowd. Wolves parted in shock as I walked forward.

I lifted my head, and I was even more horrified.
